G'day learned friends. My surgery is this Thursday morning. Is it wise to start increasing my dose of Pred, 16 mg., now or night before or afterward - or at all? My levels of anxiety are on the upward swing (not unusual, as I have always had this in regard to most things medical). I was overdosed on Demerol many years ago. Heart went into overdrive and the physician gave me a shot of something to slow it down. Being in a ward with diabetic amputees did not help. Some horror stories. Most were elderly and I was 33. This particlar anxiety has carried thru for 40 years. I do have Generalized Anxiety Disorder since childhood.
I'm so glad for this group of patient, ever-listening folks. Also, any other pre/post surgery suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks. ~ Deb

No, no need to start increasing. DIscuss it with the medical staff and at most you go to 20mg on the day and possibly a few days after until you see how you do.
Wishing you well Missus835 this does sound like post traumatic stress, be sure to make a special case for yourself and get advice on meds. Your surgical team will want control of them. A nice pre-med injection would help you to be anxiety free. Soon be over. 🍀
Thanks SJ. Many reasons for PTSD; this being the main one. I believe they give a sedative. This procedure is done under a local, but the sedative may make me sleepy. Hope so. My TA biopsy they had only frozen the area, but I had taken an extra anxiety pill which worked well.
