It is a 2 step vaccine with between 2 and 6 months gap to the second jab.

I am having my second jab 2 months after the first one

Thank you. I will have to enquire at my surgery!

My nurse did my Shingrix vaccination and made the appointment for the second one at the same time.

My sister had her shingles vaccination last Friday and was given the other shingles vaccination the Zostovax which is a single one

Thank you. I wonder why I was told to have just one jab before starting Ro Actemra...no mention of another!

Sure it was Shingrix you got?

Definitely!

Then check when the second will be given!

Hello again. I'm on 11 mg pred plus ProActemra. I had to have the Shingrix jab before starting ProActemra as a precaution. Do you think it will be useful to my immune suppressed body now. Will it be effective?

If you had the first jab before the RoActemra that should have worked as normal. But you do need the second for full protection and if it were me I would ask the rheumatologist about missing a jab after the second Shingrix to give it a better chance of working. I am told to leave a jab if I have any infections,

Yes. I missed when I had Covid recently. Good point, thank you.

Hello again. Thank you for your insightful responses. Apparently I am due to be recalled for the second Shingrix dose next week. I needn't have been concerned. I find the lack of patient involvement quite hard since we moved to Wales. I'm not complaining, because the GP and surgery and timely medical care has been very, very good. However. We are not copied into Consultants' letters, or blood test results ( these have to be printed off in the surgery, by special request). It is as though THEY are taking care of that and WE don't need to know. Actually I DO need to know!Do you miss a Tocilizumab jab after, or before a flu jab (or both), a covid jab etc? I have a flu jab soon and wondered if you had been given any guidance. Thank you.

How strange that I was only given one. Thank you for the link.

In that case I would question it being Shingrix one … perhaps you ought to check

Once you’ve had both Shingrix jabs, are you done for good, or will you have to get them again after so many years?

This article states latest studies show they are effective for around 10 years -

As DL says, they know they are effective for 10 years, but they haven't longterm figures for much longer than that as it wasn't submitted for approval until 2016 with clinical trials before that.

In my case, AliDeJ, I heard nothing for 6 months so called up the local surgery to remind them. This was two years ago. I remember things being rather chaotic generally during the pandemic as far as communication was concerned. OP

Yes, I feel that I have to be quite proactive to get answers! Thank you for your reply.

Shingrex is given as two consecutive shots, about 10 weeks apart. I have just received the second about a week ago. My first was given at the end of June. I had no problems but for tenderness at the site of injections for about 24 hours. I have PMR but happily Shingrex did not aggravate the condition. Hope it goes satisfactorily for you too.

Hi.

As a nurse I give this vaccine. It is 2 injections 8 weeks apart

Well. You should know! Thank you so much!

It is 2 shots. I was told I needed the 2nd dose between 3 to 6 months after 1st shot. I was very ill after the 2nd shot - achy, tired, felt like a very bad flu, in bed for 3 days! If I had to do it over again, I would have waited to the end of the window to get the 2nd shot

Good luck

I'm so glad you posted this because I had completely forgotten about getting a second injection! I'm putting a note on the refrigerator right now as well as my Google Calendar💞

Anyone know - if you are not sure whether you have ever had chicken pox or not - is it best not to have the injection?

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Fries

If you haven't had CP you won't develop shingles, you can't. But you can have antibodies to the CP virus measured quite easily and I think it is routinely done in expectant mothers. If you are worried - ask your GP to check. MrsNails had it done.

Thank you very much for your response. As I am not sure whether I've had it or not. I will check about the antibodies though. I regularly look after the grandchildren and haven't caught it yet so it would be a good idea to check.
