Diffuser - Anyone got one, are they worth the trouble?

My OH saw this article and said he thinks I need to get one as may help my brain fog, which drives him mad when I can’t bring the correct word to mind and use “thingamabob” and “whatsit” a lot in conversations these days.

Anyone used one and would it be worth getting one?

Thanks

Funnily enough I was reading about this study not an hour ago!!!

medscape.com/viewarticle/99...

where they point out

"Limitations of the study include its small sample size. The investigators hope the findings will "stimulate larger scale clinical trials systematically testing the therapeutic efficacy of olfactory enrichment in treating memory loss in older adults."

... This paper "brings together" previous research findings to show that odors during bedtime can improve some aspects of cognitive function and circuits that are known to be important for memory and cognition — which Wilson called "a very exciting, though relatively preliminary, finding."

A caveat is that several measures of cognitive function were assessed and only one (verbal memory) showed clear improvement."

It IS a VERY small study and hardly broad in its results. On the other hand - if you can stand the smell, it probably won't do much harm,

Thanks for that. I am going to get one as a friend tells me they use one with lavender essential oil to help with sleep problem. That’s something else I suffer from, will report back in few weeks.

I’d address your sleep first. If that’s poor your brain is not going to work properly. My word retrieval is the first thing to go apart from my humour if I am sleep deprived.

I know people who put lavender oil/essence/whatever on their pillows to help them sleep. Perhaps it has an effect on one’s mental being as well.

just started doing it myself a week a go , I’ll give it a couple of months and report back either way . 👍

I use lavender sleep spray from a well known company in Norfolk. I spray it on my pillow every night. I think it helps my sleep, but my recall of words is definitely negatively affected by a bad night. It does smell lovely though!

I also do word quizzes on Facebook, wordle and spelling bee every day (NYT). I think this helps too.

I love the smell of lavender.

No harm in trying if, as PMRpro says, you can stand the smell. Alternatively, you could get another OH ...........

Aromatherapy has been used for centuries, at least as far back as ancient Egypt. Apparently rosemary is beneficial for mental alertness and memory. Use it early in the day, then end the day with lavender. :)

"There's rosemary, that's for remembrance; pray, love, remember: and there is pansies. that's for thoughts." Hamlet (4.5. 170-1) -Shakespeare.

They didn’t do Ophelia much good though!
