I have been taking pred at 9:00 with large bowl of yogurt, fruit. Now read some just use a tablespoon . Is this really enough to coat empty stomach? Makes me nervous but I have switched to 6:30 trying this. I’m at 2 and a half mg. Just adrenals causing fatigue and a little malaise but no feeling of PMR like last November when the drop didn’t work at all. Thanks.

food with pred
Usually I have breakfast first but sometimes, if I need to go out early, then I take a couple of spoonfuls of yoghurt and then take the pred. It's always been fine. Others will have more information. I'm not on omeprazole or other stomach protectors.
It possibly depends on the person. But the yog is probably not just "coating the stomach" - the yog itself has some effect,
I have mine at 2am with hard cheese, in fact comte or gruyere!!
As soon as I wake up (~5 am), I have about 5 spoonfuls of apple sauce before I take the prednisone. I used to wait until I had breakfast, but I go for an early morning walk before I eat, and that could be between 7 and 8 am. I wanted to take the pred as early as possible. I’ve been doing this for several months now and it’s been fine.
When I was taking pred at 2 a.m. always took it with about 1/2 cup of yoghurt, and of course a little water to actually swallow the pills. If I remember correctly dose was 8 mg at highest, but was tapering down from increased dose for a flare, so not as high as that for long. I would think a small helping of yoghurt with only 2 mg or so of pred should be safe. I should add that I also had a small snack about half an hour before bed (which is usually midnight) and a calcium supplement, so it hadn't been many hours since a supper meal by the time I took the pred, more like 2-2.5 hours since previous snack.
I usually choose a couple of tablespoons of probiotic live natural yoghurt , a level teaspoon of local honey and some nuts and berries. I call it my 'first breakfast" because my first set of meds are usually earlier in the day. That seems to be work well for me.I have various stomach issues so I assume if it protects me from extra symptoms it should work for others with no other gastro problems.
I took pred with large bowl of porridge when on higher dose
I have mine (currently 4mg) at 5 am with 4-5 teaspoons of thick plain yoghurt, left on bedside table at bedtime, then go back to sleep.
I have a bit of a cautionary tale!
Having been on the steroids for over 11 years, I thought I had it sussed! Mostly on gastro resistant Pred. apart from 1mgs. tablets. Both Rheumy and GP said I didn't need to be on Lanzoprazole daily, could just take it as and when I felt the need which was about once a week. Always took Pred. after breakfast.
Well, it turns out I have had Gastritis for over a year. I was feeling Nauseous off and on and had frequent tummy aches but put it down to all sorts of other causes- emotional, stress, insomnia, side effects etc. asked GP about it in November but he was only doing phone consults. so I had blood tests which showed nothing. Saw a new GP 3 weeks ago and she actually felt my tummy and said it was inflamed, so I have been on a course of 30 mgs Lanzoprazole daily and feel so much better! Before, I thought I was getting depressed because I couldn't stop crying. That completely changed within about 3 days of the treatment as I began to feel better. GP is pretty sure it is down to the Pred.
1/2 cup yogurt along with hard cheese, 4 crackers and green tea has been my go too for the last year I take my prednisone at 0430hrs so I am “limber” enough to go to work at 0700hrs I started at 60mg and it required more yogurt cheese and crackers but I am at 10mg today I was at 7.5mg but going through a flare from heck this week
I take my pred dose anytime after 3pm, either on a pee break or on waking fully.I could do a piglette with fancy cheese but for me it's ust with water. Takes all sorts... 😁
Don't you mean 3AM?
Of course. Just testing 😵💫
You COULD be on permanent night shift ...
Permanent brain shift at the moment....😬
Can any one advise me please? Just started back on 15mg prednisolone this morning with my breakfast of porridge and blueberries and have low stomach pains - have been sipping mint tea and just having a couple of Rennie's- any suggestions as I don't remember this happening in the past?

Thank you. Not very good at finding my way around websites!!!
if you go to top of this page you’ll see a WRITE button in blue box - tap it and it takes you to new page . Give your post a title [the subject you are asking about - like stomach pains] and then write what you written above…. Copy and paste if you can. Then select POST at bottom page. Quite easy….
Thanks, I’m not very tech savvy. That does help. Mostly read on here but need to ask a question occasionally.
By low stomach pains do you mean lower abdomen? Below the waist?
Yes very low down. I do also have diverticulitis and gastritis- not much hope for me really!!
Don't think Rennies will achieve a lot - they are aimed at the stomach which is a lot higher up, well above the waist. Not constipated are you? Eaten something unusual yesterday evening? Waterworks OK? Not needing to go often, painful?
Thanks to all of you for your helpful posts. While I'm not yet low enough on Pred to have flare pain (like so many others), I've had a big issue with stomach pain. I've now started on cimetidine 200 mg, twice a day, and make sure to take it awhile before the prednisone. I will now go to the title post by Villatina.
While I'm not yet low enough on Pred to have flare pain ..
Doesn’t quite work like that - you can have a flare at any dose…all it means is that you have gone blow the dose your illness requires….be that 50mg, 20mg or 5mg…
You can flare at any dose - even at your first reduction from the starting dose. All depends on residual accumulated inflammation and activity of the underlying disease.
I appreciate your clarification. Good information!
I have not gone low enough for me -- my body -- my degree of inflammation -- my dosage -- for my body to flare. We are all different in our experience of PMR. We are different in how prednisone affects us, too, whether we have mood swings or stomach pain or other effects. As far as pain, I'm guessing that an early diagnosis (figuring out quickly that one has PMR) may play a role in how the body handles inflammation, but probably most PMR sufferers will say there is nothing predictable about this disease!
