Help! I forgot to take my Omeprazole on holiday!

Can’t believe I have been so stupid as to forget to bring my Omeprazole capsules on holiday. I see I can buy Omeprazole from a chemist but not the capsules as they are only available on prescription. I am returning home on Friday. Will the over the counter ones suffice (if I can get them)? What happens if I can’t get them? Any advice much appreciated. It’s been stressful enough getting here without this!

Why don't you ask the pharmacist, they usually know a lot more about drugs than the doctors.

Depends where you are...if in Englang, you can ring 111 and choose the option 'repeat prescriptions' ....

If abroad the pharmacists are really knowledgable and speak english and are so helpful. If the Uk you can get an emergency presciption really easily. Don`t stress Enjoy your holiday xx

If you are in UK, the pharmacy may be able to give you an emergency supply for a few days. If in Spain and some other European countries, pharmacists are able to prescribe. Go to the pharmacy and explain your predicament. Though I have always had the empty packet with me, when I have been in that situation, so I am not sure what they will do without it.

If you’re in U.K. you could ring your practice and explain your predicament and they would electronically send a prescription to your nearest pharmacy.

As for Europe - the other posts are more knowledgable than myself, but from past experience they are very knowledgeable and helpful. You’ll be fine - enjoy your holiday! 🌺

You can make do with high doses of gaviscon. This is what I did when I stopped taking omeprazole a few years ago. The GP advised me to do it. It was all fine.

I would explain to the pharmacist - they can issue emergency supplies of some stuff and I would think omeprazole should come under that but I imagine the tablets will also do the job.

And when you get home - stick a pack in the bottom of your handbag, handbags if you have several!!!! I'd say toilet bag but a damp environment isn't ideal. Carrying a copy of your prescription in your purse is alsoa good idea.

I have been known to stop the car a few miles down the road to check I have everything!!!!

In terms of effect - there isn't supposed to be any difference. Tablets might be a bit slower and taste difference.

Thank you. That’s exactly what I did and I have the capsules now. Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I seem not to be able to work things out logically lately. Brain fog ever since the last covid - or old age?? Believe it or not I was once an intelligent woman. Now I get stressed by anything.

I think it is easy to get into a bit of a panic where medication is concerned -and I’m sure you are still an intelligent woman -just a bit anxious..

You’re right there! I’m sure my husband would agree with you 100% - about the anxiety at least.

"Brain fog ever since the last covid"

Very likely - it is known to have neurological effects, It could be worse though.

I once got an emergency prescription for the number of pills I needed to see me through. Ask if that is possible. I had to pay.

I got mine from Boots in Edinburgh. Cost me almost £10 though for 4 tablets! An expensive mistake I hope not to make again.
