I was diagnosed with PMR in december 2021 and a subsequent blood test told me that my bloods were up but only slightly.
Consultant put me on a tapered course of Prednisolone.Starting with 15mg and gradually tapering down to finish July 2023.The last time i saw my consultant was in may 2023 and he said all your blood results came through as normal and finish your course and have a good life(nice man😊).
To be honest from the first time i took Prednisalone all the aches and pains disappeared and there was never any reoccurrence.
The reason i am writing this is because before i had PMR i never had acid reflux but my GP advised me to take Lansoprazole as prednisolone can upset your stomach. So two weeks after finishing my course and Lansoprazole as well i am suffering from not heartburn but acid in my stomach and throat daily.
Is this because i stopped taking Lansoprazole abruptly and if i persevere will it go away eventually?
I was taking Lansoprazole for eighteen months and i've read some not very nice things about taking them long term.
Sorry that this was a bit of a ramble and i wish everyone well 😘

Almost certainly due to stopping the lansoprazole abruptly - that results in rebound production of acid which can be severe. I think I would restart the lnasoprazole and get that under control and then taper. It hasn't stopped in 2 weeks - could be a while more.
I had the same even when I substituted the PPI with a different sort of anti acid, but to a lesser extent. It is well documented that abrupt stoppage of PPI’s can cause a rebound acid and you should have been advised of this. Personally, I wouldn’t try to tough it out because you may end up with damaged oesophagus lining amongst other problems and be forced to take them again for longer while it heals. As PMRPro says, restart and tail off slowly when it is back under control. You could start with alternate days and slowly increase the time between doses depending on how it goes.
