It can be done

I know a lot of people on here are struggling but I thought I'd just post, especially for new members on here, that it is possible to be off pred within 18 months. Having been diagnosed with PMR in Jan 2022, I followed the NHS taper plan as advised by my GP. 15mg for 3 weeks, followed by 12.5mg for 3 weeks, then 10mg, dropping 1mg every 6 weeks. However, I did follow the Dorset tapering plan once I was down to 6mg, and stepped down by 0.5mg once I was on 1mg. I took my last 0.5mg dose last sunday.

I didn't have any flares during that time and feel fine now.

Fingers crossed of course...

Sending all of you on this forum best wishes.

Great news - but putting two and two together from your bio - the PMR appeared after a Covid jab? It has been noted that people who develop PMR in response to a Covid jab have had an easier and shorter journey. Even the medics have noticed that!

Yes I did wonder about that

My PMR started after the first covid jab in April 21 and I'm still going but down to 4mg (from 25) with only a slight blip reducing from 5mg to 4.5. And yes, I do consider myself luckier than most, no pain in all that time apart from a bit with the blip although in the last two weeks suffering with shortage of breath doing the things I have always done without breathlessness. Part of the journey I suppose. 🤷‍♂️

I got my PMR after Covid infection. Any chance I could have an easier and shorter journey?

No idea to be honest. DIfficult to distinguish between PMR and Long Covid really.

You are indeed one of the fortunate. Long may your remission remain stable.

well done kalgoorlie! I am down to 0.75mgs after just over 2 years and feel fine. I am taking tapering very slowly now , also still only 0.25mgs each time, as it seems to work for me, but I really do feel as if I am back to my old self again . Keep smiling!

Well done, I’m envious as I’m still struggling to get below 10mg Pred after three years! Hope everything continues well for you 🌸

You’re very lucky and sincerely hope it stays like that for you. Feel like I’ve been doomed from the start - stupid GP’reduced dose in week 2, 3 & 4 and then tried upping just 5mg every 3/4 weeks whilst inflammation got ahead. By the time I saw a rheumatologist she says it can’t be PMR due to unresponsiveness. The GP’s are unfortunately back in control now as have to wait 13 weeks before next appointment (told it woukd be 4) so hate to think what state I’ll be in by then but if I’m lucky a rheumatology nurse is going to call me back in 6 weeks !
