Stopping Alendronic acid

Currently down to 2mg Pred, after 5 years. Should I stop taking my weekly Alendronic acid?Thanks for your input!

Have you had a dexascan at any time? How long have you been on AA?

It depends - some doctors feel that low doses of pred aren't a risk, others prefer it to be continued. But if you have been on it 3 years or more, you are due a drug holiday anyway.

Yes, I had a Dexa scan c.12 months ago (with good results). I have been on Pred since diagnosis in 2018. I think it's drug holiday time!

See from previous post of 2 years ago, you've been on AA since diagnosis - so 5 years.

It is time for a break, but you need to discuss with doctors - and as PMRpro says depends on state of bone density as to whether it is a complete stop or just a rest from it.

I was on Risedronate and stopped at around 2mg. Now 0.75mg going on 0.5mg. Still waiting a DEXA scan but informed months ago there’s a long waiting list.
