having a bit of a meltdown with this one, on 29th of this month I am having some planned renal surgery that I am paying to have done privately , the problem is this coming Friday 16th I am having dental work done ( it can’t wait so much pain) the night before is my last MTX before my op , and on Monday 19th they want me to have my Co-vid booster . I should get a good immune response from the booster not taking MTX for the 2 weeks after the booster, but will I be ok having potentially teeth removed the day after my MTX injection and just a couple of weeks before my op and throwing the booster into the mix at the same time . Anyone ever had dental surgery so close to op’s or Likewise while still on MTX ? Sorry if it confusing as I am confused . I’m thinking of not taking MTX this week either , but that means I will be taking a month off MTX .
dental treatment, MTX , surgery and Co-vid booste... - PMRGCAuk
dental treatment, MTX , surgery and Co-vid booster all landing at the same time.
I haven't been in this complex situation, but I think I would be asking the dentist about the MTX issue. Mine would certainly know the answer.
Lots of issues all converging around the same time. Can you delay the COVID booster until after the dental work and renal surgery? It seems to be the least pressing and most flexible given your ongoing pain with dental issues, and your surgery is booked and paid for privately. I once held my MTX for 4 weeks whilst taking multiple antibiotics and having a bad upper respiratory infection. My PMR symptoms re-emerged.
Perhaps a chat with your GP (who should see the big picture), can help you navigate through the complex upcoming month. All the best.
I too think spreading things out somehow would be a good idea.
I was trying to kill 2 birds with one stone as they say , by having the Co-vid booster while I was off MTX for the op , then Sod’s Law steps in and I get a broken tooth that is making me run up the walls so it has to be sorted before the op as I have a good 4 weeks rest and rehab afterward . 😩
My Consultant advised me not to have the Covid booster close to my spinal surgery. I asked the Anaesthetist too when I saw him and he advised leaving 4 months between surgery and vaccine. So I haven't had the Spring booster as my surgery was 12/5/23. My operation was private too. Best to ask your Consultant or another member of the team at your hospital. Hope it all goes well.
I agree According to my docs I have enough immunity just maybe not for the variants. They didn't want me to overload my immune system when it would already be stressed. Hope it all goes well for you.
