Peroneal Tendonitis

I have just been diagnosed with Peroneal tendonitis at a clinic after an ultrasound on my foot due to quite severe pain after just stepping down a step. The inflammation is quite pronounced on the scan. I am wondering if this is common in people with PMR? I already have trochanteric bursitis and wondered in this was another addition to the pile of things to live with or just coincidental. I find out treatment next week but have been put on 7 days of naproxen with a stomach settler alongside the pred as a one off for now. The pain everywhere has gone like never before which is interesting in itself.

I've had it for the last year or so - achilles tendinitis in the right ankle was just improving and the peroneal tendinitis appeared in the left! I was issued with an ankle support which immediately relieved the pain and it recovered over the following several weeks though it took months to really disappear. The rehab rheumatologist recommended insoles to reduce the achilles strain and the guy who made them (not cheap but fairly standard here) also provided support for the outer foot and peroneal tendon. That doesn't work immediately, takes a few months.

The TB probably affects the way you walk and contributes to the overall delicate state of tendons which aren't helped by either PMR or pred. PMR does affect the attachments of soft tissue to bones so it all adds up.

I was crippled with Achilles tendonitis on low doses of Pred and the Peroneals joined in. Nothing worked for me though (didn’t have ultrasound) except having orthotics and targeted exercises to strengthen my hips and lower back which were deemed weak and contributory by both a podiatrist and pelvic (long story) specialist physio. My sister had the same after a course of Quinolone antibiotics and the GP cleared it up nicely with glyceryl trinitrate patches (for angina) cut in half and placed over the tendon areas.
