Tapering confusion

I'm currently on 7.5mg of Pred and have tried various slow tapers but they weren't quite slow enough, which I have written about before. Somebody suggested that I drop half a mg every 6 weeks but I can't remember how to do it and how to calculate off the 7.5 mgs.

With thanks,

Viv

This has 3 different tapers varying from 5 weeks through 7 week to 14 weeks -

Not sure what you don’t understand…

For instance I'm on 7.5 now, if tomorrow I drop by half an mg that will be 7.Then I carry on with 7.5for the next 6 weeks, how do I calculate the drop?

If you read through my post - it details what days you take what dose, and is based in a weekly regime.

If you look at PMRpro’s DSNS it is based on days rather than weeks and is linked here -

Suggest you print off both tapers then you can sit down and read through them -and see which one you will find easier to follow.

Easily done -which is why I said print them off and have a read through in a quiet time so you can get your head around them…

If a slowed taper isn't slow enough for YOU, just repeat each stage as often as you need. None of them are written in stone.

I had a hard time getting below 8mg even though tapering 1/2 mg at a time. I was determined to not have to start over ever again so devised my own schedule. I dropped 1/2 mg one day the first week, then Mon. and Fri. the next 2 weeks, then every third day for a couple weeks, then every other day, etc. I have now gotten down to 4 1/2 mg 2 days, then 5 mg one day. So far I haven't had to back track and have not had another flare. Good luck on your journey!
