Hi I have been on Pred for 5 years now and still tapering. Now tapered to 2 mg finally. Its been very up and down but seems to be getting better.
my question is : I started to have gum recession and I can say it definitely was never an issue before I developed PMR. It could be just coincidental but Im curious if PMR and ir the Prednisone itself could be involved somehow.
i usually dont ask anything but tnought I would just put this out there.
thanks in advance

hi ! Thanks for your response! So you did notice maybe an acceleration perhaps. So maybe theres some correlation. At least that is what I told my dentist who knows NOTHING about PMR. But Im working hard on managing things using toothpaste meant for Gum recession and flossing etc etc.
I can’t answer your question about gum recession, but I can agree with SnazzyD that your dentist should know about steroids. Mine is very keen to know what dose I’m on every time I see him, and as I’m now on 6.5mg, wanted me to take extra for a tooth extraction because of the stress on my adrenals. Impressive 😊.
well my dentist doesnt seem to consider it - she really justnseems to want to make me spend money. Well nect time I see her Ill question her about this.
I experienced the same thing and wondered if it was the prednisone. I was on it 5 years, including GCA levels + Actemra. I wonder if the gum recession may have to do with bone loss.
hi! I tnink you are on yo something there. It makes sense. Are you off the Pred yet? I am 5 years on and finally down to 2mg. Hope to kerp tapering this summer down to 1 mg. Pred is good but there are side effects over a long term it seems !
Went off pred at the end of December. You don't instantly feel better once off. Now five months later I'm very gradually improving and still working to get my stamina back.
Hi like Mahnahvu I'm off pred recently, but to be honest the last 5 months have been a pain, I never realised just how fatigued and weak I would be, its either a walk or pottering in the garden each day, but not both. I am feeling a tightness (pressure) in my gums/teeth and i know the gap between my front teeth has closed, and am experiencing tingling around my mouth and lips, the dr suggested the dentist, who just didn't want to know, said it maybe nerve damage or just weak jaws, but no problem, if the gap has closed the teeth can't go any further. --- I was inclined to ask for my private consultation money back. Had he looked at my exrays he would know I used to have a big gap--- I got a coin stuck as a youngster. Sorry i can't answer your question though, good luck with what may come of it.
