Hi
Do any of ever had an operation for HH?
I have a 5cm one and it’s causing tight chest and chest pain after eating which is really getting me down also using PPIs for GERD. When would surgery be an option?

Not sure you are in the right place for answers there - we're not bad on the use of PPIs as lots of us are on them but not because of structural GI problems.
I used the Search HealthUnlocked box at the top right of the page on a computer, under your post on a phone, and typed in hiatus hernia, There are quite a few posts listed but they don't seem to be linked to a particular group - but there are some who ask about surgery experiences so they may be helpful.
I am in the USA and I was put on a PPI for acid reflux caused by a HH 25 yrs ago. I was on it for about 4 yrs and then I had a radio ablation done in my lower esophagus sphincter muscle in the hospital and never had to take a PPI again. My doctor was brilliant.
My brother and my cousin both had the surgery. Don’t wait too long. Your esophagus is possibly being damaged. I have acid reflux, too.
A lot of damage can be done. I refused the surgery for hiatal hernia but just had esophagus expanded. Procedure sounds worse it is. It has reduced chest pain. Still have dysphagia but at least chest pain better. Good luck.
