Following the responses to Donaloge’s thread, I’m wondering if I need to be taking an ’azole at all. I always have yogurt and/or kefir with my breakfast (2-3 dessertsponfuls), and I’m currently reducing - very slowly - from 2.5 to 2mg. I always seem to be prescribed uncoated tabs. If I want to experiment with not taking it [Lansoprazole] what should I do? Just stop and see what happens? Thanks

A supplementary question about Lansoprazole
I have never taken a PPI because of pred - that's nearly 14 years! No problems I have noticed.
If you want to stop lansoprazole, DON'T just stop, taper the dose over a few weeks or you may experience rebound production of excess acid which can be quite severe. First reduce the dose you take each day for a couple of weeks and then start to have odd days without - like tapering pred with no PPI as the new dose.
Thanks. My Lansoprazole dose is 15mg in a capsule, which would be hard to divide. Could I try a similar schedule to reducing pred - as in one day off, 6 days on, one day off, 5 days on,etc.? When I got close to coming off pred altogether last year - too soon, as it turned out - my GP told me just to stop the Lanso when I stopped the pred 🙄
I just stopped taking lansoprazole and all my other medication when i decided enough was enough of being shoved with drugs 3 times a day and found that one of my meds was the cause of my problem with gerds. by slowly add one med at a time take morning and night now im 3 meds less and no acid reflux or upset tummy. But we are all different in how bad our IBS is. Take care.xx
