I am grateful to everyone who responded to my question. Every answer was enlightening. Now I wonder how many of us have Scandanavian ancestry.

Hi Christi48

I think my PMR started after a flu jab but also the stress of a parent with Alzheimers (living in the USA) and a sick brother and trying to keep up with that. I am Irish heritage.

Thx

Complicated answer I'm afraid. I am Ashkenazi Jewish...all my family came from tiny villages in the Pale of Settlement ( a region designated for Jews in the Russian Empire). My family left after pogroms , when there was widespread rape by Cossacks, who I believe do have some common ancestry with Scandinavians. Maybe I should do a DNA test to be able to answer your question!

Yes, some Norwegian. Maybe that's why I like watching Scandi Noir on TV. 😊

Apparently the human genome has ~10% Neanderthal DNA if I remember correctly. Figure of 10 might be wrong but we definitely have some.

I’m Swedish but living in the U.K. since 1984. (Was diagnosed with PMR in October 2021 and now on 5mg).

I’m British Irish and have a great grandfather who was Swedish. PMR started after I had been caregiving for Alzheimer’s dad and dementia mom and single parent looking after three kids and a nasty divorce and a hospital job that was getting very toxic. I was getting on the other side of it all and was starting to finally look after myself (swimming , working out in the gym) when PMR started suddenly. One day it was in my hips and pelvis and then quickly to shoulders and neck. Incredible pain and stiffness. My sister also just got diagnosed with PMR.

When a DNA test showed I was of 26% Scandanavian heritage, I thought, "Cool!" Less happy about it now!

I have Dutch ancestry, it seems most of us have Scandinavian heritage. Lucky us 😌

You can count me in the group with Scandiavian ancestry as per 23 and Me DNA analysis.

My GCA started after a period of prolonged stress as well.

2 strikes and you are out!
