That's the trouble with cut tablets! You say "one of" - are you using more than 1 cut tablet? Why?
my GP keeps prescribing the 2.5mg gastro coated ( also have 5mg non coated) even though I don’t need them (no tummy issues). So I’ve been cutting them so that i can absorb them quicker, also have been tapering by 1.75 when I can.
How about trying taking the 2.5mg ones with food before bed and the non-coated in the early morning. Then they will work at about the same time.
And assert yourself, Tell them that the e/c ones are a problem, if you are to get 2.5mg ones they need to be the non-coated form - which exist but probably cost more than the coated variety, They naively seem to think there is no difference in the speed they are absorbed - where their physiology and pharmacology lectures get stuck is beyond me!!
I had seen it said somewhere that the coated 2.5 are cheaper than the non and that’s why they keep prescribing them even if the patient doesn’t require them. Comes down to cost. Yet GPs are quite happy to continue pushing the use of AA whilst not first making certain that the patient actually needs them……..with a dexa scan. All seems a false economy?
I can't see how the extra ingredients and processes for coated can possibly be cheaper that non-coated.
Economies of scale I think…
I would wager a months pay, little as that is, that if we took a poll on here those taking uncoated pred would massively outnumber those taking coated.
On here yes. But I think there are a lot of users of coated 2.5s (specifically 2.5s) for other conditions.
Definitely happens now and again when a stubborn tablet refuses to go down with the others - lots more water followed by a cuppa soon gets rid of the lingering taste! 😳
......would chocolate work? 😜😏any excuse for chocolate for me.💞
Or you could try taking your cut tablets in some thick Greek yoghurt? X💐
Can you not take the cut pill with a mouthful of food or push it down with a mouthful. I know what it's like to get one caught in the throat; only happened a couple of times but they do taste rotten. I do find it dissipates with a drink or food. I would not want the coated tabs either. Mistakenly bought some time-release Vitamin C the other day. The size of horse teeth. I cut them in half, because I don't want them to interfere with the other supplements I take at that time. Sorry you're going through this. We are are own advocates. Be tenacious.
"I cut them in half," - so why did you buy timed release then? Cutting them chucks that out of the window
Are you referring to the Vitamin C Pro? I picked the time-release ones up by mistake and didn't notice until I went to take one. At that point, after opening, we cannot return. An example of looking and then not watching what I pick up. Was my bad.
OK - just wondered because anything that is timed released can't be cut without losing the timed release aspect.
dreadful taste isn’t it. I just take more yogurt eat a banana and drink some tea.😊
A Teaspoon of honey helpd
I had the same problem. I now put the small pills on a small spoonful of sugar, dump it in my mouth & quickly wash it down with water. It helps the pills go down & I don't get the bitter taste.
