Eye floaters. Any link to Pred or just normal ageing process?

This is not the first time I've had these floating black specks in my vision, mostly on the left which is my weaker eye (very short-sighted on that side). But does long term Pred affect this? And is it a warning sign?

I'm currently on 5.5 mg of Pred for GCA /LVV /PMR one year in, feeling ok, though bouts of fatigue and muscle weakness. I have an appointment with my eye doctor mid-May so will see then if it's anything to worry about, but has anyone noticed an increase in eye floaters since starting Pred?

I actually had a large floater in the middle of my vision - looked like a greasy smudge on my specs! But my top-notch optician said it was a floater, just didn't float much! It improved after starting pred and improved more at higher doses of pred so that now it is as good as gone!

They are a fairly normal part of aging but they can be a warning sign - if there are lots more than usual, sudden new onset, flashes of light in the same eye or any shadow or loss of vision, Then you need immediate medical advice.

Hi - there’s a lot of information on eye floaters in FAQ’s there are several posts so if you have a read through l think you’ll find it helpful but l would get it checked out.

Those of us who are Myopic (shortsighted) are prone to a Retinal Detachment so it’s always worth getting it checked ASAP in the U.K. there is a System for seeing an very quickly in these circumstances but imagine you have something similar in France?

I’ve had two PVD one in each eye - six months apart & if you have one you usually have another! 🤦🏻

It’s all explained under Eyes in FAQ’s

Thank you! I'm booked in for mid May with the ophthalmologist who knows I have GCA so will be on the lookout for any danger signs.

Hi had to see retina specialist because of large floaters in left eye never had. The PMR inflammation went to my eye and had to get steroid injections in it. Best of luck.
