I would like to thank those of you that replied to my post regarding increasing prednisolone from 2mg to 40mg because ESR of 41 was too high (on advice from GP).
As stated ESR can be high for various reasons and as it transpired mine was from an undiagnosed chest infection, which is now resolved. I am so grateful that I posted on this forum asking for advice with regards to increasing pred before doing so. In my heart and of course from symptoms I knew I was'nt having a GCA flair but when your told by a medic that is the case its hard to fathom out what to do for the best. Thank you all for your support. By the way I never took the 40mg and am still on 2mg.

I managed to get a GP appointment. Explained I wasn't feeling well, no mention of the gca issue by me or her, it was different doctor to the one that prescribed 40mg. She said as a matter of course she would listen to my chest and it was identified. At the end of the consultation I mentioned the over the phone diagnosis of a GCA and the fact that a dramatic increase in pred was not necessary. The response was to shrug and say nothing.
I am fortunate that I can be quite assertive but not everyone can. I was bought up in a time when if you were told to do something by a doctor it wasn't questioned, I think that adage still rings true in a lot of cases. Thanks for your interest.
