Pmr and cold weather
Cold weather has a tendency to worsen any illness -the body has to work much harder to function -that why the NHS dreads the winter months.
Some enlightened Rheumies suggest you ease up on tapering during winter …
Very good advice. OA seems worse and stiffness at the moment. What exercises apart from waking can one do?
Waking is a very good start
Seems to for me, and extreme heat. I always flare in winter
Doesn't cold weather stiffen muscles in general? That would add to the hell of PMR.
It isn't the cold per se for me - but damp and wind. Minus in double figures without wind and with sun as we often have is fine. Same in summer, wind and damp is awful.
Well it certainly seems to be affecting me. Could also be some Christmas stresses in there too! Let's hope the cold snap soon ends and we can see if things improve - with the PMR at least. The Christmas stuff takes a bit longer.
Although I don’t like being cold, and it certainly affects my joints, it’s hot weather that I really find difficult - generally, rather than just the PMR - and for that reason I stopped trying to taper during the heat wave last summer. There are so many reasons for pausing tapering - at the moment I have a cold - it sometimes feels as if I’m never going to get off these 🤬💥⚡️! drugs
The latest cold snap has definitely made my aches and stiffness worse. Flare up of piriformas problem and general stiffness in the shoulders. I haven't needed to increase Pred so far but won't be tapering further until after the holidays and hopefully slightly warmer weather.Heading for another scolding from my Rheumy🙈
