Blood Glucose Levels post Pred?
Many people will find that their blood sugar levels return to a healthy range when they stop taking steroids in 1-2 days. But for others, steroid-induced diabetes can continue even after you've stopped your treatment. This is more likely if you are at higher risk of type 2 diabetes.
It depends on whether your blood sugar levels were up merely because of the effect of Pred on the liver that raised blood sugar, your diet, whether it had got to the stage where your pancreas was no longer able to cope or whether you had insulin resistance. I found that as the Pred dose got lower so did my tendency to higher blood sugars if I didn’t stick to my low carb diet. If your sugars are still on the high side after going through low doses and then none, that is more difficult to predict because it points to diabetes.
They should do since you aren't taking pred to trigger the liver to release the spikes. If they aren't it does suggest that maybe you are on the way to developing Type 2 diabetes. That is why there should be careful monitoring while on pred to see what is going on.
