Traveling time zones

I have read  answers on traveling with prednisone over time zones but still am a little confused and nervous. I have GCA/PMR and am on 10 mg of prednisone. Traveling from Seattle (Pacific Coast, USA) to London (8 time zones) on a night flight. Arrive in London 9 hours later at 1:00pm in the afternoon… London time. This will be approximately 20 hours since I took my morning dose of 10 mg.

Most everyone recommends  taking a little extra but I still unclear how this would work in my case.

I can not express how much I appreciate all the thought and care that goes into this website. It has been a great source of comfort through my journey. Thank you all so much.

Travelling from the USA to the UK is a SHORT day and I just take my usual dose in the morning of the day of travel and then at the same local time on arrival - it is less than 24 hours later so effectively a bit more but you don't actually take more. Since you are travelling such a long way and arriving later than I would doing the east coast to Europe, I would set my watch for UK time on boarding and take the pred in the morning at UK time, a couple of hours before landing. Then take the next dose at your usual morning time next day and continue with that time while in the UK.

Returning to the USA, take the morning dose in the UK, and about 24 hours later take a third of that dose to carry you over to morning in Seattle the next day and your usual dose.

Is that clear?

Yes, it really makes sense. Since it was a longer flight I just was not feeling confident on when to take the dose. Move on to London time right away. Bravo. Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply and all the hard work you do for this community. The support given on this site is so amazing, it has been my daily read for the last year. It has given me such a deeper understanding of this disease, how to manage it and hope. Thank you so much.

Have a wonderful time,,,we were due to fly to the States mid January, but the place we usually go..Cape Coral…was badly hit by the hurricane. & the travel insurance (tried 30 companies) was just too expensive to be able to justify the cost! We’ve visited over half of the US States, but I think the others may remain unvisited! Enjoy the holidays, Merry Christmas! S x
