How can you tell the difference between prednisone weaning aches and pains versus an impending flare up of pmr inflammation? I don’t want to trigger a full blown relapse.

Weaning aches vs flare up pain?
Hello, have a read of this from the FAQ’s on the right and then fire away if you’ve got any questions after that. It sure is a perennial issue for this condition.
Weaning aches tend to start immediately you change the dose and then get better over a period of a week or so, a flare will inevitably get worse and may take a while to manifest. One of the reasons we bang on (and on, and on ...) about small steps and decent gaps between them in tapering is that with a small step the return of pain is less likely to cause withdrawal pain and allowing time between those steps down allows time to see if the new dose is still enough.
And do always have a look in FAQs - it may save you time waiting for a response!
Hi, missmymuscles, Almost everything I know about PMR and tapering comes from this forum. If they say slow is the way to go, then slow it is. I don't taper until I feel 100% no pain. And since 7 mg of pred(nisone), I've been going down by .5 mg. I agree with everything Snazzy and PMRpro said. You will feel much smarter about all of this if you read the FAQ's. There is SO MUCH information there. Just read the parts about tapering and pred withdrawal and flares for now, but read up on the rest of it a bit at a time so you can digest it all.
