Hello my friends! Advice please. I am having my first cataract op next week. After three years I am almost down to 3.5 mg. Pred daily using the DSNS system. I will be on 3.5 mg on that day and the three days including that day, Shall I plough on or raise the Pred to 4. 0 mg. on that day and the day before and after? Xxx

So long as you feel okay at current point in taper, I would be inclined to just repeat the phase you are on now……so don’t introduce any more new days at lower dose. If you feel okay after operation (give it a few days) then just recommence taper.

Good luck …

😊..:.just make sure you’ll feel okay after op before you restart though…

I think I was at about 8 or 9mg when I had my operation and all went well….

Do you mean OK with PMR —- or OK with the eye? Or both! X

I had cataracts removed from both eyes more than 10 years ago before I'd even heard of prednisolone, so I can't advise on dosage. However I can give you encouragement and tell you that my ops made an incredible improvement to my life. I didn't realise until afterwards how impaired my eyesight had been. I can remember standing at my sitting room window and looking at the block of flats opposite and finding that I could count the bricks in the wall. Previously it had just been a large brown-ish blob.

I have had two cataracts removed whilst on 3 mg of prednisolone. I had no problem with either op. Just relieved and delighted with result.

What I did notice was my hair that I thought was a delicate shade of honey blonde and was in fact over bleached together with the state of the paint work which was yellow.

My daughter has developed rapidly induced steroid cataracts due to her cancer treatment and is having hers done on Saturday, I have told her there really is nothing to worry about and the change is incredible 🥂

I'v had two steroid induced cataracts removed, I was on 4 1/2 when i had my first one and the Eye specialist I saw 2 months earlier said he would prefer I didn't reduce before the op., but I did two weeks after as it had gone well and I was staying on 4 1/2 longer than the rehumat. wanted (these days he is long gone and i do my own thing.)

I have had cataract surgery on both eyes 4 weeks apart in Aug and Sept. At that time my current prednisolone dose was 3mg daily. I did not adjust my dosage and everything was fine. Good luck its amazing getting your sight back...

I had my first cataract surgery in June when on 5.5mg Pred. I enquired as to instructions for on the day and was told to take all meds as usual including steroids. I took my 5.5mg and was fine. My second surgery is approaching so I plan to do the same.. good luck, the only problem I had was seeing all the wrinkles with my better vision. Oh dear!! X

I've had both eyes done without changing pred dose (4.5).All well, but the wrinkles!

And the dust and general grubbiness which I couldn't see before!

But worth it to be able to drive again. :-)

Good luck!

So funny!

At the moment I’m feeling sorry for myself as it is the morning after the op on my first eye and I feel like I’ve been socked in the eye by a boxer!!!

I was warned that colour perception may change, but haven’t noticed that as such. What I do notice currently with one eye each pre- and post-op is how much whiter whites are with the new lens - and we have a lot of white in our flat! In the unoperated one anything white is now noticeably yellowish: I feel like my own personal advert for Daz!

Yes! It is the morning after the first op and the curtains are white with purple flowers with the new eye and dirty cream with the old eye! Actually everything seems much too bright at the moment!

That sounds familiar! I was warned that I might find everything bright too.

I had my first cataract operation 3 1/2 weeks ago. I was on 3.5 mg at the time, and due to reduce a few days afterwards. In the end I stayed on the 3.5 mg for the fortnight after the op: I figured if they’d given me pred eye drops for that time, I’d at least leave the systemic pred at its previous level to give them a helping hand!
