I have covid for the second time and my Rhemy wants me to take Paxlovid as the first time I had covid 18 months ago I was quite ill but had a massive PMR flare which took 8 months to get back under control. Anyone tried it? I feel all I do is keep adding more and more drugs. My COVID symptoms are only bad cough, shortness of breathe and tiredness. No fever or head cold. Thank you

Paxlovid does have some side effects like most drugs. You do need to take it reasonably close to you having Covid symptoms, within 5-7 days. I agree with you having to take more drugs is not something one wants to do if it is avoidable.

I took paxlovid when I had covid in February and had no side effects and I'm sure it helped. When I had covid again in August I was offered it again but felt it was a mild dose and didn't need

Hi Pawscat! I had Paxlovid when I got Covid last May. The normal dose was 3 pills, but the pharmacist removed 1 pill from each dose. I believe that was because of other drugs I was taking. The Paxlovid interferes with many drugs - check on line for yours. I had no side effects, and my Covid symptoms were mild - maybe because of the Paxlovid. Within a week of getting over the Covid, I rebounded, and it was blamed on the Paxlovid. It is known for that. Also, I upped my pred. by 5 mg. during my illness. My GP recommended I order a oxy/pulsometer (clamps on your finger) to make sure my oxygen level was adequate. I found it very reassuring at times. Hope you're feeling better soon!

I had covid in Sept and took Paxlovid. The Dr adjusted my meds lower blood pressure med, and lower prednisone for the 5 days I took it. I did lower the blood pressure med but was afraid to go down to 10 mg of prednisone as he instructed me. I had NO PMR pain on Paxlovid and in 5 days all My severe symptoms of covid were gone. Two days later I got sick all over again, a relapse but less severe than the first round. Then a huge flare of PMR pain hit which took a month to get under control. I won’t take it again unless very sick.

Oh Dear, l was put on Sick Day Rules ie 10mg Night & Morning from 12.5mg from 12.5mg while on Paxlovid - l think reducing the Pred would have caused you to rebound. What dose were you on when he reduced the Pred?

The Dr & the Pharmacist went through all my drugs & my Paxlovid was reduced by one tablet was because of my kidneys.

Hope you are better now?

I was on 13 mg when I got sick Sept 8th and still not able to get lower. He told me to take only 10 mg while on Paxlovid but I took 12 mg but still flared. I really did not believe the Dr but was so sick with102 degree fever I really wasn’t thinking straight.

Bless You - unfortunately not every Dr fully appreciates the complexities of Medication - as l said l went from 12.5mg to 10mg twice a day & it worked well especially as l had a cough & it felt like it was all in my upper respiratory tract, l had a follow on course of Antibiotics as l developed a URTI

Hope you are on the mend 🍀

I was told to keep prednisone as it is but if I feel the need up it. Certainly not reduce it.

I took Paxlovid in August and just had a metallic taste following each tablet. No other problems and my symptoms were mild. The only issue that I had was that because you have to take the tablets every 12 hours, try to make sure you don’t end up having to take a dose in the middle of the night as I did! 😴

I woke up last night with the metallic taste and hadn't realised it was a side effect until I googled it. My covid test this morning was negative which is a good start. Symptoms have been mild with mainly a cough. I am doing 10/10 for timings of pills and remembering so far :)

They mentioned that to me & as l didn’t get mine delivered until 6pm - l waited until 8pm to take the first one 😉

I was very impressed with the treatment & knowledge & they warned me about each possible interaction & gave me a number to ring - as l was staying in bed anyway it didn’t interfere with my BP or heart Meds….
