Distention around lower rib cage? any link GCA

I have found on walking a moderate distance say for about 20-30 minutes. I have a tendency to get a rather heavy distended feeling around the midriff feelingalmost slightly bloated. I am not sure why this happens and it goes away with rest. Is this commonly experienced by others?

No and it would ring alarm bells. I think you need a few tests. Hopefully it is something simple and harmless.

I get mid-low back pain after 3/4 hour walking that can become very uncomfortable - physio says it is the upright position and demands on the muscles. Could be something similar.

I was wondering if you experience swelling in your legs when you walk?💞

HI Nominem ,

I get a pain when I walk for more than a few minutes but mine is on the one side in my upper back area (around my shoulder blade area). I have had it ever since I had covid. It also sometimes comes around to the front rib area.

I had an appointment with a doctor and after a physical examination he thought that it could possibly be inflammation. He prescribed some Naproxen which I took for 10 days. They really helped. Unfortunately the pain has now returned but I am reluctant to take more anti inflammatory medication. At the moment I have been in bed resting for two days as I have been overdoing it this last week. My pain is worse if I do too much and physically exert myself. I am stabilised on 7.5mg and waiting for the results of recent blood tests.

I recently had some doxycycline for 8 days for a pleural rub and energy levels improved last month.I am trying 6mg prednisone at the moment. I was walking with my family yesterday when this started . I have taken it more quietly today and it has subsided. It has also been a fairly busy week generally .I once had naproxen prescribed about 35 years ago and had a rash .I hope things soon improve for

Thank you. My stomach has been distended too these last few years. I was told that it is because of the Prednisolone. I have the typical 'lemon shape' now. I try to watch my diet and keep active by walking for 30 minutes a day (with a rest along the way) if I can. I couldn't go for a walk with other people now as I wouldn't be able to keep up. I go with my husband who is happy to go at my own pace. Shopping trips are now a thing of the past 😔! Take good care of yourself and stick to your own pace!

Thank you very good

Note my diagnosis is Stills Disease which manifests as RA in my case.

I get rib pain stretching from lower back to the front ending under he breast. Mainly in the right but occasionally both sides. Walking and any activity except swimming produces it and any time I am not warm. It’s quite painful and feels like the ribs are being crushed by a giant vice. I’ve always assumed it’s part of Stills or damage from it and take topical pain relief as needed.

This happens to me. Sometimes if walking a bit further than normal my midriff boats out as if to compensate for my back pain, almost pregnant like. I have never know what causes it. I always have what I call my 'steroid baby' however it protrudes further on distance walking 🤔 I've saved your post, would be nice to have some idea as to why this happens

I've had this quite severely these last few weeks and it was painful enough to make me almost cry at its worst. I think it may be related to constipation and a build-up of gas unable to escape. Trying laxatives and some relief but not resolved yet. It swells sufficiently to pressure the rib cage at diaphragm level and also the spine. I've mailed my GP and Rheumatologist for a response, and I am due an MRI for legs and pelvis, so I have asked for it to be extended to cover the region up to the diaphragm. It does look like I am pregnant and I think it is not a normal condition.

I had this last year when aI was on a higher dose (15mg) I felt what I can only describe as 'discomfort' bloating and couldn't stand anything around my midriff when I walked. It disappeared when I tapered and came off lansoprazole

I would ask about the alternative to the PPIs which are H2 receptors such as famotidine and work in a different way. I think there are a few of us on

I have stopped omeprazole and found this helped . I have a gaviscon prescription if needed. I am about to try tapering from 6 to 5mg prednisone see how it all goes
