Should I taper down when I have a sore throat?

I have a sore throat but feel well otherwise. I am on 8mg of Pred and am due to taper down to 7mg. Should I wait until I am completely well?

I am particularly concerned because I understand that 7mg is a bit of a ‘transition dose’ in that it’s at this dose that people can start to struggle with Adrenal Insufficiency.

I am terrified of flaring after - thus far - having a smooth taper down from 20mg to 8mg (with 1mg drops down from 10mg).

Personally I would hang on until I was over the cold and then carry on reducing.

I would be tempted to hang fire for a few days and see if it develops further and if not then carry on tapering. You could think about coming down in 0.5mg stages from now onwards. You could also think about a Covid test as a sore throat can be a sign of the Omicron strain.

Hi Siena

No stay on your current dose until you feel better, you can continue your taper when you feel better.

I think it would be a good idea to reduce by.5mg from now on

Personally, I would taper only 0.5mg at a time from where you are.

I would most certainly wait till you feel better. What does a week or two matter in the grand scheme of things?

There is not really a fixed dose where people struggle with adrenal function - it can happen higher or lower, it may not happen at all. But I would wait until the sore throat is gone.
