OH PMR Re-visited

OH was diagnosed PMR and GCA in June 2018 - To GP one day with symptoms; she took bloods and next day he was sent to the Rapid Asessment Unit (so-called) Maelor Hospital, Wrexham.

I can't remember correctly but initial dosage of pred on discharge was 40mg (?) and a temporal artery biopsy a week later. Going along nicely and gradually reducing Pred - until Covid reared its ugly head and follow-ups ceased!! Forunately GP was able to monitor and prescribe pred and this forum provided much useful info - particularly DorsetLady's slow taper. He's been off Pred now for well over a year.

Then pains across shoulder and neck muscles - so contacted surgery adanced practitioner re blood tests for ESR, CRP.

Result - indicating need for Pred so he was able to speak to GP and she sent an urgent prescription to pharmacy in town. Picked it up next day.

That sounds like pretty competent treatment particularly in the Covid circumstances we face. I hope this relapse is short lived.

What a shame - but at least the GP practice stepped up to the plate. And you know what to do, Word of warning though - the people I know who have had it twice say he two episodes were totally different. So don't be surprised if there are curved balls from left field
