The steroids can cause fluid retention. My legs, ankles and feet swelled up when I started steroids.
I had very swollen feet, lower legs and hands well as pain etc prior to diagnosis of P.M.R.Gradualy resolved after being treated with prednisolone however.
I had swollen knees at the beginning, just before PMR diagnosis and after, but I had a dislocated kneecap also. My knees were drained twice and I was given steroid shots in addition to the 15 mgs pred for PMR. A year later I had one knee replaced on 6 mgs pred, later upped to 7 mgs. PMR first started in my knees after being triggered by a strong medication where I had to crawl up stairs. Gradually PMR affected my hips and shoulders and then I was diagnosed a few months later.
Yes, annoyingly so but in my case it is more likely due to torn ligaments than PMR as only one leg is swollen presently. Waiting to get in to see my orthopedic dr. and having a second opinion in a few days from another one. Upped my pred yesterday by 2 mg. which sure helped but it is not a long term solution. Knee replacement is. Did you fall or injure it recently?
