i have had PMR for two years, got down to 5mg steriod, but just can't move from there, i thought best to go slower, so 2 days a week i take 4 1/2 , That's only 1mg a week, that should do it, NO within a few weeks feeling worse, how can that happen on such a small reduction wouldn't think that would make much difference ,

Like you, many have discovered 0.5mg can really make a big difference….

Suggest you return to 5mg -give yourself another few weeks - and then maybe try again -obviously now is not the right time.

Don’t get worried about it, 5mg is a very low dose on the great scheme of things, and if that’s what need at the moment, it’s what you need! Won’t be forever.

Next time you try, maybe start introducing on one day only first week -and then introduce the lower dose on 2 days, then 3 days as weeks progress and on how you feel -but not on consecutive days for first few weeks -

Couple of plans that might help -

Years ago I wrote a post about what a difference 1/2mg can make - and that was 1/2mg over 2 days! And every so often someone else makes the same observation.

It can be the difference between being enough to control the inflammation - but at this stage the difference between being enough replacement for adrenal function and not. Just to make it more complicated.

Can I make a plea? Please don't use your user name as the title for your post - give some indication as to the problem or question in the post itself. That flags up related posts and also encourages others to read your post. Not everyone reads all posts.

I reduce by .25mg and I notice the difference so .5mg is definitely noticeable

Maybe you’ve found your perfect dose for now and you could rest there for a bit. Two years is not long in PMR world and 5 mgs is not a bad dose to be on. Don’t spoil it by rushing your body, you could end up back at the start.

I have found a difference in just 0.5 mgs. Tried to reduce from 4 to 3.5 but had to go back to 4.
