Is this PMR?

Seeing GP to have bloods done next week to try to rule out/in PMR

Had COVID end of July and improved after 2 weeks a bit but then have been getting hip, shoulder, back pain - really totally exhausted and stiff in the morning and improves as day goes on.

Not sure if this is due to COVID or has anyone else had PMR triggered by COVID?

Could be a combination of covid and/or PMR -and many do “blame”their PMR on lots of things……but usually it’s a number of things-and they just remember the last thing that happened and assume that’s the cause.

If it is PMR then welcome to the forum and maybe have a read through this for more info -

Difficult to say - post Covid and Long Covid symptoms can be very PMR-ish but there are people who say their PMR developed after Covid as the final straw insult to their immune system. Covid end of July to now isn't long to recover so maybe it isn't PMR, hopefully not. The BA 4 and 5 versions seem to last a long time and take a bit of getting over.

But we are here if you need us

My PMR was in remission when I got Covid in June. It triggered a flare. At least I'm hoping it's just a flare. I'm back on steroids and am tapering down just like before. I don't know if covid would trigger PMR that you didn't already have like I did, but it certainly can trigger a flare.

GP said bloods were ok so guessing PMR ruled out. My right shoulder only is still sore and scalp is very sensitive but otherwise feel I am getting better. Thanks for all the replies.

Bloods okay…doesn’t necessarily rule out PMR -between 7-20% (depending on which study you read) don’t have raised markers..So just keep an eye on symptoms and if they increase then back to GP.

Have you tried painkillers for shoulder? Might be worth a few days to see if it makes any difference - but have to say I’m concerned about scalp tenderness -what GP’s explanation for that?

Up to 1 in 5 patients don't have blood markers that go outside the normal range. Normal range isn;t a rage for a single person, it the range that covers 95% of levels found in nominally healthy adults - so 2.5% can values that are even less. My normal ESR is low single figures, anything higher is raised for me but it bumbled al 16-18 for weeks during a major flare and no-one turned a hair because it was still well within "normal range"

Thanks again for the replies- I will keep an eye on the symptoms and get back to GP of things not getting better.
