hi all , I had a fluid lump on both knees right one is more painful a real stinging pain I have not banged or done anything to my knees .

I spoke with rheumatologist nurse today and she said possibly a bakers cyst but I asked her why I keep getting these fluid lumps pop up in all different places , still have the one just above my collarbone which has had a ultrasound and said nothing there and then the foot still waiting on a injection on that .

Just wandering if anyone on here has anything like this .

Hi Rottsuzi,I had a bakers cyst many years ago, behind the back of my knee.

My doctor referred me to a knee specialists as it kept banging every time I walked and I could feel the pain going down my leg.

The surgeon removed it and it’s never come back.

I also had a large ganglion on the wrist, well more like the end of my arm just where the wrist starts. It stopped me from bending my hand and couldn’t drive as the lump would allow it, had to stop wearing a watch and so on. Again I was referred to a specialist who removed it. I’ve not had any since, but I’m getting suspicious about the wrist one as I think it’s possibly starting to get bigger on the same place.

I’ve never been told why I had them.

I’ve had bakers cyst in right knee and general swelling and sore feet too. A MRI identified a small cyst and general synovitis (swelling to you and me!) Knee itself was in pretty good condition for a 62year old who had been a squash player and a runner - in my previous life!! It was very debilitating for a long time. I had steroid injection in the knee and fluid drained. It calmed down of its own accord. My foot has responded to treatment at a podiatrist. He’s very experienced and knew all about PMR. Then my wrist flared for no reason apart from stress (my Mum passed away) it was really painful but minimal swelling. So painful I called out of hours and ended up visiting the hospital in the middle of the night. Something I’ve never done. My rheumatologist saw me very quickly and another steroid injection put that right. After all that I agreed to start Etanercept one of the Biologics and not typically used for PMR but they believe I have more of an inflammatory arthritis than just PMR. Six months later it has been really effective and allowed me to taper to 4.5mg of prednisolone. I’d been stuck between 7-10 for over a year. Touch wood no break through symptoms in my knee, foot or wrist. There were no obvious answers apart from inflammation for my sore knee etc which was so debilitating for a long time but I’m now pretty much pain free but I’m still terrified of a flare! It’s been a long 6 year journey for me so I still say never say never! Good luck in your search.

Thank you for your reply did you have any pain in the front of your knee before you have the lump in the back just wondering because I have done nothing to have damaged my knee but it is painful at the back .

That’s good you are managing to taper it’s a very frustrating trying to get down the prednisolone I have been the same stuck at 6 all the time and now on methotrexate

Good luck with everything
