saw Phsio today said that yes I’d overdone at it was delayed muscle soreness. He said he has spoken with a rhumi to understand pmr better. He said to go slowly little steps they is no point in sorting one problem to create another so we have a better understanding now. He’s told me to cut all my exercises in half and if I get to much doms cut again. Baby steps. So only 10 mins in pool only 5 reps and rest next two days. I am pleased with his experience and bedside manner. Onwards and upwards I hope.

He seems extremely genuine in try to get me strong and better mobility but understands it’s not straight forward.

That’s good - not only for you but for future PMR patients he may treat.

I'm pleased to hear that's sorted that's sorted out for you and to hear that your physiotherapist has made the effort to learn more about PMR.

Onwards and upwards is right! My last physio told me she knew all about pmr because 4 of her husbands family members had it. Her word of advice to me: “I don’t want you standing more than 1 hour at a time.” I told her “I can’t stand 10 minutes at a time.” She had no response to that.

Perhaps she didn’t understand it quite as well as she thought 🤔

I am a retired physio. Qualified in1973.

There was nothing at all about PMR in our training, and I only learnt about it when my mother had it.

Hopefully today's physios are a bit more clued up??

(Over the course of my career I picked up a few undiagnosed people with PMR, but was never referred anyone with the condition to treat.)

I have osteoporosis so I’m being tested for that but pmr needs to be understood in treatment so as not to overdo it.

Hello Grannymiaow, I too am a retired physio - qualified in 1962 and support all you say. Looking at two young physios. I know, one is familiar with PMR and is aware of the problems caused by too much exercise, the other is not.(or was not!) We need to keep banging the drum about this to get the message across for the sake of all on this forum.

Hello Francesbarbara, I wonder how many of us retired physios are on here?

A friend with whom I trained, who knows about PMR (she's possibly had her ear bent by me a few times!) has educated her niece who is a practicing physio (NHS).

Apparently there is more taught these days during training, (not difficult!) but still not enough.
