Hi everyone. I have had PMR for 15 months. Started on 15 mgs of Prednisone and Have been slowly reducing. Six weeks ago I reduced down a half a mg to 2mgs of prednisone and the pain was horrific. I was really thinking of going back up to 5 mgs to see if it would help when my son came by and told me he was taking Beetroot pills for inflammation in his knee and that he had seen a pretty good improvement. I bought some at the Healthfood store and have been taking it for three weeks and guess what! My shoulder and hip pain have greatly subsided by 80%. I mean I haven’t felt this normal in six months. Not sure how this stuff works but my son said it relaxes arteries and its anti inflammatory. There is no longer any pain in my neck, shoulders and buttocks And the sensitivity in the back if my scalp is gone! I sleep well and in the morning my stiffness is way milder and is gone by the time I’ve made breakfast and moved around the house a bit. I can actually take my dog for a walk again. I am so thrilled to feel better and so grateful to my son for suggesting it. Life feels good again.
Taking 2 pills of 625mgs of Beetroot capsules 2ti... - PMRGCAuk
Taking 2 pills of 625mgs of Beetroot capsules 2times a day and it’s HELPING
Fabulous news! I crave fresh beetroot, we have borscht quite often. The body knows. Go gently with your 4 x 0.5 last drops.
I too love fresh beetroot. It stems from working at a green grocers as a teenagers. Used to munch freshly cooked beets, fresh from the oven, during break times. Would fresh beetroot do the same job as the beetroot pills do you think?
I am not sure. You might have to eat a kot to get 1259 mgs a day. Lol
And that is where the problem lies - there is no scientific evidence for the benefits claimed for beetroot but while the amounts of whatever is beneficial are probably not of concern when obtained from foods, the high amounts offered in supplements are another matter. It is said that beet juice etc does seem to help with post-exercise muscle soreness and I wonder if that is the benefit you are experiencing? Not dissing the effect, just wondering.
Probably, but if this can help me get thru the day, then I am so down with that. As for overloading my system I am the kind of person who will keep vigilant about keeping a watch out for any new problems and my doctor said He will check liver levels every three months but also said that what I am feeling could be a placebo effect and he thinks its probably hopeful thinking, but its not hopeful thinking when I can pull on my jeans faster than I have done in a year, pick up my mop bucket and clean floors again, take dog for a good walk around the block and reach up in top cabinet for stuff I haven’t seen for months. 😂😂😂
I am really interested in trying this. I will need to look into it a bit more since I am on blood thinners and wonder how more relaxed arteries may react. Perhaps someone in the 'know' can advise?
Beetroot contains lots of metals that can be retained in the liver and cause damage. Have a friend who took them to lower her blood pressure and now has liver issues. Be careful.
Thanks so much for the info I will def check that out.
What brand of beet root capsules have you been taking? I'd like to give it a try . . .
Solaray Beet capsules
Thank you. I’ll try those.
Just read comments about these capsules so might try with caution. Many thanks
British cycling did some experiments in a velodrome and discovered that the cyclists given concentrated beetroot juice after intense exercise recovered better than those given any other drinks. No idea how much they were given or whether there were any other effects or whether any continued to use it.
Watch out for kidney stones...
👍
Just my 2 cents worth. I grow my own beets, even though my husband doesn't care for them LOL, but I read that it is the greens that are way up at the top of the list of anti inflammatory foods. The beets are often used to treat liver disease, high blood pressure, and sore muscles but no research been done to prove this. I LOVE beet greens, sauteed with a bit of vinegar, salt and pepper, or sauteed and scrambled in my eggs. Ooooo yum. I sneak a big handful into our smoothies and the color is covered up by the berries I use.
