difficulty getting gastro-resist prednisolone

is anyone else having trouble getting the gastro resist prednisolone?. I am down to my last few and will have to go over to the plain ones soon. My stomach is very sensitive so I am fearful of being without the gastro resist pred

Hi there,

Look at FAQ'S and scroll down to

'Updated Info on 1mg Gastro-resistant Tabs'

This may help although this was a specific issue with the 1mg GR tabs at the time. May be a similar problem though. Hope it helps.

Discussed recently …the poster who hopefully will see this wrote to manufacturers - unfortunately at the moment can’t remember who it was - But Kendrew has linked her experiences.

Thanks, but no it wasn’t -I should remember who it was because I found the link to the manufacturer- and then they wrote and got a very helpful reply. Having a senior moment… happens to the best of us 🤨

Trouble is unless I trawl through all my replies (!!) I’ll probably never find it.

Hello Dorset Lady! It was me! I emailed Wokhardt as local pharmacies couldn’t supply me with 1mg tablets. This was not the gr ones, just the plain tablets. Was told they would be available again by the end of July. ( manufacturing problem)!?!

Is the difficulty in persuading your GP to prescribe them rather than the actual availability of them? Other than the periodic problem with the 1mgs every 18 months or so I don't think there's been a an issue with availability of GR tablets as such.

in reply toHighlandtiger

My gp is happy to prescribe the coated pred, but my pharmacist cannot get hold of any of them for the moment....

Interesting. I've not had any such problems ever with 5s or 2.5s, only 1s occasionally. Hopefully it's not the start of something. Any chance of changing your pharmacy (stating the obvious I know...)?

Just found post I was talking about, but it was plain 1mg that were in short supply not GR. However I did suggest writing to manufacturer... you could do the same thing... just look up the company online, sure they will have a "contact us" facility.

Take it with pro-biotic yoghurt and teaspoonful of manuka honey.

How long have you been waiting for them? Each time I have my prescription I am having to wait up to 3 weeks for them to arrive at the pharmacy but they do get there in the end. Might just be a case of waiting and also making sure you have plenty in stock 😀

in reply toFloridafan

I have waited over a month, last month’s supply are the uncoated ones. They are not supplying any gr tablets round here. Waiting to hear from the manufacturer whether they are supplying them at all.

You can buy empty capsules of enteric coated pills and put your prednisone in them.

Been on GRP for a while but this has now been stopped on grounds of expense by my GP. Says it will not have any effect as I only take 1:2 mg on alternative days.

I'm from Canada and they don't have the Gastro-resistant prednisone. I had all kinds of severe stomach issues until I discovered I could put the tablet into a gelatin capsule. I ordered them from Amazon. It solved this problem for me. Hope that this helps.

Thank you soo much for your kind advice. I will follow this up pronto!
