Hello i have been on Pred for about 3 1/2 years now for PMR . I take 7mg at the moment but have been down to 6mg. My question is i have just moved areas and i am having problems getting 1mg gastro tablets. I can remember someone on this forum saying they get capsuals that they put there 1mg normal pred into and this gives them a protective coating. Can anyone tell me where i can purchase these please. Also does anyone know where i can purchase high dosage calcium citrate tablets.
Many Thanks this group has saved me many times. Thanks again

You can get empty capsules from that company named after a South American river! Pure Capsules®Size 000 Empty Ivory Yellow Capsule There are probably other suppliers too.
As far as I understand, you should only buy capsules that are specifically enteric and/or acid resistant. Most capsules on the market are not. I buy them from Capsuline and even most of theirs are not. The ones I get from them are "Vegetarian Acid Resistant Enteric Empty Capsules" Size 0. Smallest quantity is 1,000 count. The blurb claims that the dissolution time is at least two hours, and this has been discussed before here.
Thank you I will try that. I get so fed up with these doctors and medications it used to be so simple now you spend most of your time doing their job and chasing things up. Sorry for the rant. Thank you anyway.
I just wondered if you’d tried a different pharmacy? My husband and I both get the 1mg gastro Prednisolone tablets. Our previous pharmacy (part of a large group) told us they weren’t available and that he had tried to get them. But I think as part of this group he could only use certain suppliers.
We switched to an independent pharmacy just 10 minutes away, and this one has never had a problem getting them, as he can use whichever a manufacturers he chooses.
A very valid point - Boots have a reputation for claiming that various things including 1mg enteric coated pred are not available. Which at one point was laughable since they were distributed by the holding company of both.
Thank you for the reply, where I used to live I had no problems. I showed the pharmacist the packaging from my old tablets which had the manufacturer name on. He was not interested.
I think the problem may be down to a document called The Drug Tariff. It tells the pharmacist how much the NHS will reimburse them for each drug or appliance dispened on NHS prescription. With all the cutbacks, many can't afford to subsidise each prescription. In my day, we would bear the loss if it wasn't too great, to help the patient, but these days the NHS contract falls short in many respects which is why many local pharmacies are struggling.
True - and I have come across some appalling behaviour by chain pharmacists. They aren't bothered about shouting personal/medical info across the shop when a patient is asking advice!!!
Ther was a discussion about similar [last yeaor maybe year before] and we found statements from some health authorities staying that EC tablets shouldn’t be prescribed , in fact just looking now found this from 2010 so ignore prices -
It could be to do with the price difference. Last time I looked, an uncoated 1mg tablet was 2.4p compared with a coated tablet at 32.5p. I'm taking 4/day at the moment and feel (very slightly) guilty! I hope my friendly, local Pharmacy doesn't close down because of my pred use!
