Flying

Am new on here. Am 2 years GCA this September & due off steroids mid-August with the help of Methotrexate, currently on 3mg. I've retired because of it, & thinking of flying to Australia either Autumn or Winter. I'm aware that the head is affected and I wonder to what extent the altitude/cabin pressures affect the condition. Does anyone know of any studies that have been done of people with GCA after flying? I'm about 25 years late for a visit & would dearly love to go, but not at the expense of my health.

I flew to New Zealand when I was on 6mg (GCA)-no issues health wise.

Did feel a bit wiped out for a couple of days when I got there… but had stopped off at Singapore on the way for 36 hours and did an afternoon’s sightseeing so no surprise really.

Stayed with my daughter for 6 weeks, so didn’t attempt to taper during that period.

Just get yourself organised with assistance at airports if needed -usually long walks.

Make sure you sort out medication -and don’t assume you’ll be off it by then.

You might aim to be, but assume you won’t…then if it doesn’t happen you won’t be disappointed.
