PEMF therapy

Sufferinginsilence profile image

Hello, has anyone tried PEMF therapy and did it help PMR? Just discovered that there is a wellness hub nearby that does it and wondered if it may help the aches and pains?! I went to the place this week for dry flotation therapy and it was wonderfully relaxing while I was there but didn't really help much in general. My son bought me vouchers for Mother's Day and I have two goes left so was considering PEMF. Thank you!

I AM well-known for my scepticism ...

This is the view from a site on which I have found a lot of sense:

sciencebasedmedicine.org/pu...

OTOH - if there isn't anything better on offer to spend your vouchers on I suppose you can at least try it without significant losses being incurred.

Thank you PMRpro. I was a bit concerned myself when the girl in the place as singing its praises - sounded too good to be true. I might just stick to the relaxing float!!

Funny that - that would have been my reaction too! She wants to sell it ...

I feel with all these type of things if it is a pleasant experience and you can afford it, go for it, but don’t expect some of the miracles offered. I suppose if you enjoy it, you become more relaxed so in that sense it can be beneficial. I love leg massage for example! Out of interest you can get PEMF mats for dogs!!

What a great present. I would try it, unless you see a treatment that you are more drawn to. However, you are talking to a woman who paid to lie on a bed with a young man while he hummed. Literally just hummed - the vibration entering my body I suppose. I am lucky to still be here!

This made me smile 😊

I was too mortified to notice.

'However, you are talking to a woman who paid to lie on a bed with a young man while he hummed'…

Were you both lying on the bed or just you…? 🤔

And did it work?

Oh god! The humiliation. He was attempting to heal me with the vibration of his own body. It was years ago and I was dealing with a lot of work stress. I suppose it was an enhanced cuddle. It was an alternative hippyish centre. He was sweet and clearly believed in what he did. Pachulli oil has never smelled quite the same since. It worked, in that it is a story of my naivety that makes people laugh, he probably learnt it in India. I think hugs can be very healing. 🙏

You’re right. Hugs are definitely very healing and I always think most things are worth a try!

It was a lovely present. They also have an infrared sauna but with my high blood pressure, I don't think it would be good idea - I'm also always too hot as it is so don't think I would enjoy that! I did enjoy the dry flotation therapy so I might just have another two goes at it. I'm glad they didn't include a man humming to me, though!!! That was funny! x

The floatation therapy sounds like heaven. Wouldn’t floating about in warm water be lovely too? I have hypertension and am always hot, all those unworn Christmas jumpers!I am slightly regretting the humming post, but everybody knows that I am a bit of an innocent anyway. I love a foot massage. Enjoy, whatever you choose, it is a gift filled with love so it is bound to help everything.

I am sure this has been discussed before, but it might have been in relation to bones. A HU search unbelievably actually came up with some results and it is quite astonishing how many different communities have had discussions about PEMF. Which makes me wonder .....

I have had great success with PEMF ! I use it twice a day , every day and it has changed my life . I've been using the mat (borrowed from a very generous friend) for over a year and the pain relief is incredible. PEMF doesn't cure PMR, but it blocks the pain and increases blood flow. I don't have to rely on strong pain medication to move, sleep etc . I doubt a couple of sessions will see much improvement, but I had a decent sleep for the first time in 6 months when I first tried it. Best of luck!

Oh thank you Cholling77 for your reply. That's very interesting. I know that a few sessions wouldn't make much difference but I thought that it might be worth a try and I would book myself a few more if it helped. I might give it a go with my vouchers!

It is very interesting! I'm 65, work full time, look after my house and garden (alone) run around with my 3 y/o grand daughter and I painted a bedroom (including the ceiling) over Easter. I'm still on 4mg of Pred, but without that horrid pain. I hope you get some relief. It is a hideous condition.

Also, it may be worthwhile to hire a mat for a few weeks to see if it works for you. You can then use it 3 times a day. Check Dr Pawluk's website - he is an expert on PEMF.
