Cataract surgery and sick day rules

Hello more questions again I am afraid. I am about to have my second eye cataract surgery and wondered if I should look to 'Sick Day Rules' around this procedure? I am currently on 8.5 mg pred having reduced a couple of weeks ago. I had my first eye done a year before my GCA diagnosis and treatment. The op is to be done with a local anaesthetic. From what I can recall the recovery from my first eye was uneventful.

Thank you again for all the support and information. I continue to argue in a pointless fashion with my rheumatologist about AA and her refusal to ever agree to a Dexa scan ( if you really want one ask your GP) and insistence that AA is an essential part of the treatment regardless of Dexa scan results. I don't know why I bother as I have been taking AA for nearly a year having started is under ignorance and 'Doctor knows best' belief.

I had mine done when I was on a similar dose as you, maybe slightly lower, and didn’t do anything different. In fact don’t think the ‘sick day rules’ were common practice then.

Like your first one, no issues. Good luck.

Thank you Dorset Lady, I am inclined to just carry on with the Pred regime as normal unless someone else has contrary advice/sugggestions

Probably worth being aware that you might feel wobbly - and maybe take a bit extra pred if you did. But I don't think I'd consider it a major intervention requiring ongoing extra pred.

Thank you for your words of caution and I will not up the dose.

I am beginning to think that DEXA scans have become a casualty of the overstretched NHS and people are being fast forwarded on to treatment.

I had both my cataract ops whilst on pred and did not consider sick day rules nor would I have followed them. I likened the cataract ops to being better than dental work and recovery was less of a discomfort! Lots of tlc in recovery, follow the rules re hygiene, drops, lifting, exercise etc and you should be fine. Hope all goew well.

Thank you herdysheep. All sounds very positive and helpful. I had forgotten about the lifting and bending bit but sure that can be accommodated.. No sick day rules for me on this occasion.
