Hospitalised for 15 weeks

I live in Brasil. After coughing up blood, and a Covid test at the leading hospital in RdJ for Covid, I was admitted on 1 Sept. I have been on Pred. for 10 years with GCA. My dose of Pred. was 5.5mgpd plus 50mg Azatioprina. Following my 2 Sinovac injections in Feb. and May last year I had a IMG/IMC test to evaluate my immune response to Sinovac. My doc, sais the result was v good. I was therefore surprised when Covid hit me so hard. I had Pneomonia and Bronchitis. I was Intubated after 3 days in hospital, and had a tracheotomy. I had dialysis, 2 operations for thrombosis. I suffered hallucinations, and was on 12 different medications pd. I was discharged a week before Xmas. Although my chest is now normal for a 75 yo, I have difficulty walking after 15 weeks in bed. I am taking full precautions for Omricon, and although less severe than CV19, am extremely concerned about the consequences of being infected.

Sorry to hear all you’ve been through, but now hopefully on the mend albeit slowly.

Good news is that they omicron variant seems to give much milder effects than original virus , and you are less likely to be hospitalised with it.

But you obviously still need to continue with all the necessary precautions to keep yourself as safe as possible.

Keep safe.

My goodness me! What a lot you've been through. I'm so sorry you've had to endure all that. Let's hope that looking forward and not back, you improve and go from strength to strength now, but slowly and steadily.

Stay strong and positive. Each day is another day of healing and returning to a healthier place.

It will be a long, slow process.

It will be a challenge but not impossible so hang on in there.

Wow! That is a sobering account of what the disease can do. So glad that you have emerged from the ordeal. I hope you keep well and build your strength up again before too long.

Hi tomh 😊

What a dreadful time you’ve had 😳I’m so glad you’re now out of hospital and gradually recovering. You’re bound to be concerned about future infections, but at least the current omicron variant seems markedly milder than others, thank goodness.

I hope your condition continues to improve. Look after yourself and remember, we’re always here if you fancy a chat xx

I lived in Sao Paulo in 1968-70. Where are you? Close friends stayed in Brasil and live in Rio.

Beautiful. Remember it so well. Ship docked in Rio in 18th Oct 68. Went on a wonderful tour before sailing to Santos for Sao Paulo. Good luck with pmr.

So sorry to hear of your ordeal. As many have said Omicron does seem less of a problem than delta. You just need time and a safe space to recover as much as you can from your hospitalisation and illness. Best wishes xx💐
