OOOps, I took extra prednisone by mistake.

By mistake I doubled my prednisone today. I take 7mg prednisone for PMR (3 years) every morning, and instead of taking my vitamin group this afternoon I took my tomorrow morning pills with 7mg pred. How to get back to normal 7mg every morning? Should I skip a day?

All suggestions welcome. Thanks very much for your wisdom and experience!!

Suggest you just carry on as normal and take tomorrow*s dose as usual. You may feel a little more lively than usual but don't get carried away with doing more than you normally would.

Thanks Bcol - sounds sensible, but do you think 5mg makes more sense than sticking to the 7mg? Just for tomorrow?

No I wouldn't, just be sensible but enjoy today and carry on as normal tomorrow.

As Bcol says - just carry on as normal & you’ll just have a better day - it’s much better than forgetting - believe me l know 😉Peter what are you doing awake? Are you on ‘Earlies’ this week? 😉

Morning Angela, guess your shoulder is probably keeping you awake. Me, I'm always on earlies. Take my Pred early then maybe laze around downstairs, comfortable reclining chair, then take the beasties out around 05:00. Back in time to get Hazel's lunch, snacks etc ready before dropping her off at work. I learned many years ago with my OA that there is no point tossing and turning in bed because I can't get comfortable or sleep, far less stressful to get up.

As long as you’re OK 👍🏻 Just had a cuppa & some pain meds, going to hunker down now & see if l can catch a bit more sleep 😴

All good thanks, take care, hope the meds give you some relief and you get some sleep. Off out now into a chilly morning.

Enjoy the day!!!! And take the normal dose tomorrow - the pred is all out of your system before the next dose is due 24 hours later and the antiinflammatory effects wear off too. If you miss a day you are likely to develop symptoms during the day.

Thanks much, as always. I will write if any major issue occurs again.🙏

Dear Neck680,

I would advise that you take a 5mg tablet, on the next day, and then continue as normal.

Only a Suggestion, and please don't take offence, but maybe you can find a 'different' Way of separating your doses?

I'm sure that you have NOT caused any real harm, as a 'once off'.

Actually I don't think I've ever heard we need to do anything with the next day's dose. Yesterday's pred will have been metabolized, it doesn't hang about, and it's not dangerous in the way some meds would be, especially at our relatively low PMR doses.

Possibly reasonable with other things - but 5mg might well be too low and be enough to let in a flare with PMR. It is a law unto itself!

Thanks Andrew— and no offense whatsoever! The pills are usually totally separated— morning pill box and afternoon pill box — but this time I left out the 2 groups just for the afternoon and following morning after setting up the week. Grabbed the wrong bunch, silly me. Hopefully it won’t happen again…. Stay well 😎

I do this with my daily glass of red wine - sometimes I take tomorrow’s at the same time as today’s 🤪
