Has anyone had steroid injection for pain due to fractured vertebrae!
Steroid injection : Has anyone had steroid... - PMRGCAuk
Steroid injection
No . But had plenty over the years for osteoarthritis- and misdiagnosed GCA (thought to be frozen shoulder!).
Is it anything to do with your PMR? If not perhaps you may be better off looking on one of the other forums.
Can't see why you would - steroids combat inflammation, a fractured vertebra is not inflammation.
However, there is a ton of inflammation surrounding the fracture and that can be painful. I have had many steroid injections of different kinds for inflammation due to fracture and ruptured disc.
Did it help
Some did some didn't. Going next week for another due to fracture at L1 and ruptured disc below it. Let you know how it goes. I am hopeful. It doesn't help at all to take more prednisone, and yet the steroid shot can work really well. Go figure! I guess the shot gets right at the spot that needs the help.
Had a steroid injection in my ear …for sudden severe hearing loss. I know - not the same area of the body.
I had one in my elbow for tendonitis. It worked a treat, but you have to be very careful to rest afterwards for a couple of weeks and the pain gets a bit worse for a while (and is different).
Had one in my hip...problems with muscles, though, no broken bones! Only helped for 48 hours, waste of their resources as had to be done in an operating theatre...and five staff. This was pre Covid. I had them four times a year in my thumbs for arthritis. But my understanding is that you don’t usually have steroid injections while you are on pred (double steroids), you’d have to ask a doctor if that’s true, or perhaps you’ve been offered one? You’d find more info on another forum, I think, as it’s not PMR related question...if you have arthritis there’s a forum for that!
Does depend on the type of injection - yours was intraarticular I imagine and they are notoriously unreliable. A depot injection deep into a large muscle (usually buttock) is a different matter and can be used to manage PMR/GCA
Don’t honestly remember (partly as it only worked for 48 hours). It was a guided injection, hence so many people needed. The thumb injections for arthritis were good, & id recommend them, but on the wrong site for that, LOL! Lovely to see you back, take care, thinking of you, S x
That will have been intraarticular, no guiding needed into a muscle.
Haven't been away - been keeping my beady eye on you all ...
Sorry, I got it all wrong again. It was some years ago & I was just trying to help Uglow. Will go back to not commenting again, & sorry I said the wrong thing to you, too, I realise you have not been away, I meant it was nice to see you commenting again. I hope you are coping OK, take care of yourself, S x
I've had steroid injections in elbow for tennis elbow and shoulders for osteoarthritis. Unfortunately, the last one in shoulder didn't do anything. They did give me some relief the first few times, about six months relief. If it works it's great x
Not had them for anything broken but used to have them in my knees for my OA.
