Look at prednisonepharmacist.com. In US. Doctor Megan of pharmacy had to take prednisone and is doing research on side effects. Amazing!

I guess you mean this - prednisonepharmacist.com/me...

It’s always useful to add a link for information if you are referring to an article.

another miracle sales blurb for a drug. Can't see how it would help suppress inflammation from GCA or PMR. She could keep on exercising to correct the effects of pred. we can't. She didn't have the debilitating side effects or PMR and GCA nor the danger of sight loss. Am I missing something here?

No,

I just added link for info….I made made no comment on its contents.🤨

Totally understand, wasn't being critical of you posting the link DL. Was asking if I had misunderstood the article. Maybe her solution helps with side effects of pred but can't see how it helps with PMR or GCA.

No I know you weren’t…I have read some of her articles before and though I don’t necessarily agree with her comments, thought the sketch of side effects was “interesting”.

You are correct in that it doesn’t relate to our illnesses, but hopefully most will realise that, and take it for what it is.

Well I hesitated this morning, after a not very good night and thought wait.......I have looked again and decided to post my sixpennorth:

There are many more side effects (81 listed ) plus one not mentioned 'Steroid Brain Fog' and the best thing is that most of them are classed as rare or extremely rare.

So far I have met no-one who has had a rare or extremely rare.

How do we know all those side effects, prednisone (USA spelling) and prednisolone (UK spelling) were introduced in 1955, therefore we have had plenty of time to discover those side effects.

Thank goodness we have the Yellow Card Scheme.

Pred is used for many more illnesses and quite a few of them are for auto-immune.

Good sales pitch.............

From my experience, from any health issues, often people who, with good intentions, make recommendations in order to "feel better" when taking certain drugs, do not themselves suffer the problems. So, easy to recommend things when one is reasonably healthy. Not the case when one has serious problems.

Very true.

I was wondering where the article was too Sue. Interesting read. What do you feel about the supplements though.....or just another sales pitch ??

We do need some supplements on long term steroid use - VitD/Calcium as prescribed….and maybe others to aid the absorption of calcium….but it very easy to be ‘pulled into’ thinking we probably need more than we actually do.

Some would say a good diet provides most, but obviously as we age our bodies maybe aren’t as good at processing as it used to be, so there may be some deficiencies which need addressing.

However, not sure that at a cost of around £60 (US$80-90) a month, this is the answer.

in reply to DorsetLady

Quite so Sue. I take Vit D plus K2 and Magnesium Malate for the better absorption. Plus Vit C, and Boron, which is known to help with arthritis, oh and an eye health tablet. Stopped taking them all for the past couple of weeks as I'm having another blood test next week. Hoping my kidney function has improved, was only reading 55 a month ago. Not sure to put this down to Pred...it can't be blamed for everything I suppose. Forgot, also I take B12 which is in a spray bottle, as I was appearing to be a bit low on that too, but it said satisfactory. I don't want satisfactory though, so helping myself by topping up.

Probably is for any financial worries SHE may have ...

that was my thought. There are so many wonderful miracle solutions promoted this way. Melt the excess fat with a pill and no effort, cure tinnitus with a miracle herb and so on. They are mainly money making schemes for the authors and promoters Would there were a magic pill. I'll stay with a known program and work my way steadily towards a planned reduction with the hope of a relatively easy path and not too much pain.

I have been on them since about 3 months after I started this GCA journey 16/10/20. My son who lives in the states first sent them to me. I was started on 80mg steroids and have been reducing without incident. I’m now on 6.5. The one big benefit of Dr Megan’s capsules is I now sleep more than I ever did. At the start I had insomnia and didn’t sleep for first 3 months now I sleep 6 hours which is an improvement on my 4 pre GCA. Also my blood works are now always good. They are expensive but as I now don’t drink and haven’t been anywhere for last 12 months for me they are worth it. Just my tuppence worth.

Oh very interesting. Thank you for that. If something works and helps you feel better in this steroid world im all for it. Thank you.

cycli profile image

Is it only sleep that has improved? if so I've achieved that by the timing and the dose. How about bruising, or fluid retention, or the fat distribution, or the muscle waste, or the osteoporosis, or the pain, any improvement there specifically ZatMas?

Have read the article, interesting sketch, but won't be changing anything I presently do.

I have seen this before and there is little to learn from this website. She is a pharmacist who calls herself a Dr, always worrying about people who are trying to sell supplements.

One the first page: "Personalized Answers, Schedule a Consultation" raised my hackles immediately!

cycli profile image

that's why I flagged it up with the question earlier. Too many of these type of products advertised on the media raise false hopes in people desperate to improve their health and takes advantage of them through their pain and problems.
