Hi Bonnie There is info on FAQ on how to prepare for Surgery if you are on Steroids. You personally do not have to adjust your dose, the Anaesthetist will factor that it, monitor you in Theatre & give you Hydrocortisone IV Cover.

Just make sure Everyone knows you are on Steroids & l’d wear my Red Steroid Dependent Band if l had to have Surgery again.

Good Luck & Best Wishes

Hello MrsNails, I haven't heard before that there is a Red Steroid Dependent Band available for such instances. Do you happen to know how to get hold of one - just in case it's required, sounds like something that might come in handy.

Thanks very much for that information. It saves a lot of hassle and I'm all for that. I shall be placing my order with Amazon ASAP.

If you want a silver (or other style) bracelet, the best seem to be from Universal MedicalID as there is no recurring charge. For the price of the bracelet you get lifetime ability to store pertinent medical (like your pred dose) and contact info on line, which is accessed by first responders through a PIN on the bracelet. I also got a set of colourful rubber bracelets for a small extra amount when I placed my order, but have never actually used them.

As our local drivers make a habit of knocking down pedestrians that's why I got mine. With the hope of course that no one will ever have to make use of the info....

Ha ha, I hope so too, but you can never be too sure. Especially with more people thinking the pavement is a highway!

I used my Red Silicone One at the Dentist & at the Dermatologist, l also popped it on in a recent long car journey. I have a Silver Bracelet now but still think l’d pop the Red One on in Hospital & the Purple One on my other wrist……

They will be very obvious!

I think the silicone ones are probably more obvious in the hospital/healthcare setting. Pretty ones may be dismissed as "just" jewellery

Did your surgeon have anything to say regarding the steroids dose? Good luck, I am sure it will go well. It's a routine procedure, but as you say, any drilling into one's body is a significant experience. My husband had had it done a few years ago and never looked back. x

Is it still on - the CO2 shortage not reached you yet? Wouldn't appeal to me either if truth were told - especially as a substitute for a trip to Sweden!

Bend the anaesthetist's ear about the steroid dose and cover during and post-surgery. And tell EVERYONE about the pred!!

All the best

Ouch ouch and ouch ( the cartoon) yogabonnie. I am sure you have made the wisest decision, I know that sick gallbladder pain is reputed to be awful. The steroid advice will need to be an anaesthetist/surgeon decision, I imagine. It will be a wonderful relief not to have these dreadful attacks and be all mended when you finally get back to Sweden. I cannot get to Australia to see my darlings either and they are not allowed to come here. My baby Theo is 7 next month 🥲.Wishing you a very successful operation and a smooth and gentle recovery . Love and hugs, you will find your “brave” Bonnie you know it’s in there. Xxxx 💜

I had my gall bladder out Dec 2018. The surgery went great, but the Dr nearly killed me. They overdosed me on fentanyl. I also have CKD stage 4, so my kidneys don't clear meds out as well as others do. I ha be done great since the surgery, but can't eat at Captain D's anymore. Too greasy. Good luck. Just be sure the anesthesiologist knows about all meds and medical issues.

Oh I am so sorry. I will absolutely tell the anesthesiologist I have PMR. that is my only other issue aside from the gall bladder.. well that and terrible Nausea after medication..so will for certain tell her that!

Its standard practice for the anesthetist to administer IV steroid during surgery to a person who gas been on long term steroids. Just call it to their attention.
