Hi Teddy, it’s always good to flesh out your question with the reason why, it helps us answer it.

How long have you been on Pred & what made you decide to try the 9pm dose?

Obviously if you are better in the mornings then it’s working for you, a lot of people simply would not sleep especially at 15mg - a lot of people tweak their dose to find out what works best for them.

It is always better to follow your Drs instructions at the beginning so you can report how you are fairing on the Treatment.

There is no right or wrong way to take Prednisolone just Recommendations, l’m a morning person, some people split their dose am/pm others take theirs during the night 2am (ish) it also depends if you take Coated or Plain Pred as to when it’s absorbed into your body.

Kind Regards

MrsN

Please always ask - lm of the Old School & like to try as recommended but very willing to look for better ways. One of the reasons Prednisolone is recommended to be taken in the morning is because that’s when our normal level of Cortisol is at its highest & drops during the day. So for short term Steroids ie Asthma/Chest Infection it’s better to follow the before 9am recommendation.

However, our body switches off producing cortisol after about three weeks as it realised it’s getting it from elsewhere ie Oral Prednisolone.

There’s lots of information in our FAQ Section - l will attach you a link - there’s a lot of reading in there but you can pick n choose to see what’s helpful.

Any questions please ask there’s always someone around who’ll know the answer & if they don’t they know someone who will.

Good Luck

Hi

I notice you have just joined but not filled in your profile.......which makes it difficult to give a sensible answer. Take a look at mine or Mrs Nails - just click on the avatars and then please fill yours in with more details, ie when diagnosed, whate dose started on and any other med problems and location is essential.

In the meantime :-

When you say 'night' what time are you talking about?

Normally your adrenals glands replenish from around 2.30am - so anytime after that some people find works better. You must take them with some food, so if you do decide to take them some time after 2.30am (perhaps when you wake up , make sure you have a drink and some food, eg a yoghurt.

Do not take them without food.

I take mine at 2am so it is very much a matter of if it works for you, do that.

I take mine between 2 and 3am, I find that helps me to get up less stiff in the mornings! I take a PPI (stomach sparer) at the same time, & must admit that when I reached 5mg I stopped eating something,& need to start that again!! Though I wonder if it’s such a necessity at the lower levels! I have a lot of pain at night (from other medical issues) & take a time release painkiller then...I don’t need to set an alarm, the pain always wakes me, but I appreciate it may not be so easy for others!!

I changed from a later dose in the day, which kept me awake at night to taking it early morning, 6.30 a.m to 7 a.m. which enables me to get a good night's sleep.

Think if you take them at night you will have sleepless nights

There have been times when I have needed to take half in the morning and half at night to make it through the night. But as soon as I am able, I switch back to mornings to match the natural cortisol rhythms. For example, I was unable to get under 5mg so my doctor had me take 2.5am and 2.5pm. After a couple weeks, I moved to 2.5am and 2.0pm. then 3am and 1.5pm. then 3.5am and 1pm etc until I got to 4.5am. Since then I have been able to get to 2.5 over several months.
