I had a molar removed yesterday afternoon due to severe pain and swelling. In my ignorant bliss I thought tooth out, pain and facial swelling will be gone, how wrong was I.
Swelling worse and more widespread and pain is building back up. Has anyone suffered the same and found Prednisolone helped ?

No I have not suffered the same, but when I had a molar removed it was because of an abscess and I was given anti-biotics before and after removal. Check it out with your Dentist who did the removal.
If it is getting worse I would call a doctor if your dentist is being a tad cavalier! I assume you are in the UK - so use 111 for advice. I do appreciate there are dentists who don't use abx like that - but a patient on pred is at an increased risk of infection so even if prophylactic abx aren't appropriate, early use when indicated may be.
I do remember our next door neighbour, who was a doctor, was going around screaming in pain as he had had a molar out. If doctors can’t help themselves, there is not much chance for the rest of us!!
You will get some pain and swelling but if it is worsening I’d call for advice as suggested. Putting up Pred decreases the ability to fight infection by suppressing the inflammatory response (in this case useful) too so antibiotic cover might be a very good idea, especially if infection was already established.
I had a loose long-term dental implant removed. I also did not get antibiotics. The doctor said it was clear no signs of infection. What I did do was up the pred a little for a couple of days because this was a stress. When I was administering anesthetics, we gave patients, on long term steroids, an IV stress dose of steroid whenever they had a surgical procedure.
Thank you . I did up the pred yesterday and think it did help , sore and swollen again this morning , I will take a higher dose this morning too . Doctor’s seem to vary a lot with their advice, when I was diagnosed with PMR over two years ago I was due to have a Gynae op, Surgeon wouldn’t consider doing it then and said I would have to stop Pred and have Hydrocortisone for a few days, she wouldn’t operate until Spring because of the risk of winter infections and then Covid 19 appeared. Needless to say I still haven’t had the much needed op .
I do wish all Doctors sang from the same hymn book . I am lucky as I have a great Rheumatologist and GP’s.I have an appointment with my Rheumatologist this afternoon which was pre booked, be interesting to hear his opinion. With PMR he has always find my comfortable level with Preds and NO I don’t have to ‘get off them completely ‘.
