Booster vaccine

Curious if anyone has gotten a booster vaccine ( 3rd shot ) yet and how they reacted ?

I scheduled mine for tomorrow here in the U.S. but I'm wondering if I should wait a bit longer to see how it plays out or go for it ASAP.

What are you waiting for? You'll likely have the same response you had with previous shots, especially if you had them some weeks/months ago.

According to reports, about 1 million Americans didn't wait for the authorization and got their third shot by crossing state lines. They're not turning up at hospitals or clinics with reaction problems or with COVID.

All good to go tomorrow morning.

I am in the UK and will called when they are ready to start the booster.

No need to cross state lines..they go in and say they are unvaccinated so get one shot then don' t return....that makes me so angry.

Better one shot than none.

Glad this topic was addressed! I am going in for my "booster" this week. I thought that it could only help given my immune system, and maybe give me better peace of mind. I asked my Rheumatologist what she thought and she said the same thing. I am going through a current "flare up" so she suggested I wait. She said she said I can go if I would like but suggested given my flare it might be wise to wait.

My friend had a booster, and had a very bad reaction. She took her methotrexate injection ( for RA) the same morning as she had the booster. She didn’t tell the doctor that she was taking methotrexate the same day.

Not a good idea - rather negates the effect of the booster ...

My mom, who’s 87 and been on Pred 5mg/d for over 10 yrs and MTX stupid doctor left her on MTX but took her off the Pred cold turkey for 2 wks prior to her first shot and not putting her back on Pred until 2 wks after the second shot. I told her that sounded backwards and get a second opinion, but she didn’t. I’m surprised in addition to pain returning that she didn’t have an adrenal insufficiency crisis.

I know a number of people who have had the Pfizer booster and have had no bad side effects.

Have there been controlled studies to see if a third dose of the same vaccine within x months really has any useful effect? For example, does a third dose reliably prevent asymptomatic infection and unintended spread of the delta variant?

They are ongoing according to an article in the WSG 4 days ago - I haven't read it all as it is behind a paywall. Scientists think the booster will benefit the immunocompromised, others shouldn't get one yet but wait for more evidence.

Heard on the radio yesterday that they suggest a third dose should not be given earlier than eight months after the second. I think, but can't actually remember, this was from Pfizer.

Just looked at Rocketman's link - yes, 8 months.

That’s for folks who are not immunocompromised. They have approved getting it now for those who are immunocompromised.

I haven’t yet but will. I’m thinking mid-Sept that will be 6 mos post 2nd shot and then the Flu shot a month later.

I received the Moderna booster yesterday. Woke up this morning feeling moderately fluish with some minor soreness at the injection site. Hoping this is a sign of a more robust immune response. Will be interesting to see how the next 24 hours go.

For anyone who might be interested I had a miserable day yesterday feeling like I had the flu but am feeling back to normal today. So 24 hours of side effects from the booster. Certainly worth it if it offers the extra protection for those of us who might need it.
