I have booked mum in for her vaccine at the weekend. She had a flare with her last one which in turn led to adrenal issues - it was the latest at the time but I can’t remember which - I assume if I called GP they would know.
im wondering how much effort to put in to ensure she gets a different one this time - or whether it is just any prod to her system which might cause another flare?
She had several Pfizer’s and a Moderna without an issue.
last time she was on a lower pred dose of 7mg whereas now we are on 10mg ….and doing a very arthritic slow tortoise like DSNS taper to 9.5mg.

I suspect you will find it very difficult to get a choice - she is over 75 and, like pregant women and under 18s, they are being offered a specific vaccine
Thanks. I’ve just looked and it was the VidPrevtyn beta she had last time which I guess is the one they are using this time for 75plus etc. It seems to work slightly differently from the others. Gosh I shall have to start the phone around process.
When she flares it v hard for her to mobilise off the chair and loo so not fun at all….
Complex rare health issues eh 🙈🙈
I am her main covid risk but myself am super careful and will be jabbed on Friday….with a quick prayer that it doesn’t cause havoc with my immune system!!
Spoken to the pharmacist who gave a suitable gosh when I explained about PMR/GCA flare 🤣🤣 Anyway he only has Pfizer in stock and is giving them to all groups unless allergic so we will go for that …and at least now I am armed to manage a flare……
The VidPrevtyn beta is the joint French Sanofi and British Glaxo vaccine, which came out quite late compared to the others. I have not heard it mentioned recently though.
Sanofi/GSK joined the others in the rush to be on the band wagon, but withdrew trials in 2020 as their vaccine did not really give much immunity to people over 50. It was actually approved in Europe end of last year. UK had agreed to buy a load. Presumably they did not bother to buy any more once they ran out.
