I've got to wondering about this. The last few weeks have been such a relief. I'm still trying to sort the difference between simple exercise pain which is usually lactic build up from using unworked muscles to overwork which makes the legs feel like they are walking through treacle. I think the second is partially the inflammation and waste product. I think I may be resting too much and that makes it stiff so hard to tell which is which. Probably overthinking it but as inflammation is still up I am uncertain.

Does Prednisolone induce laziness because of pain relief.
PMR. Oxygen supply to muscle is impaired..............make contact with you know who.
Do a little bit, then rest, do a little bit then rest................do not overdo exercise, it is all about learning to pace yourself.
That is the only thing that works for me these days.....10-15 minutes up and then have to sit...get somewhat restored plus stops the pain.....and then up again.💖
Well, actually the reverse is true…Once we feel better the temptation is to swing back to normal, catch up on ‘life’ & then pay the cost of possibly returning to square one!
The walking through treacle is usually when we haven’t taken enough Pred &/or we have over done it!
Pacing is the key & gentle daily exercise but not too much…..
Like I said earlier I think that the pred dose of 40mg I'm now taking is just under what's needed so its taking longer to overcome the later recognition by the dr. of GCA. I started at 20 for PMR immediate benefit then after a few days was going backwards and they doubled the dose for GCA and it worked. Didn't bother with biopsy as it was obvious that I had both. Just took so long to realise. Helpful people here recognise my description of walking through treacle. It's a very strange feeling. Not good at patience and a good friend told me I had the humility gene removed at birth😄😄😄these two diseases have put it back big time.
If you have GCA you MUST remember that you have a serious systemic illness. Have you ever had proper flu? Would you be surprised at feeling as you do if you had flu?
PMR and GCA aren't really two illnesses - they are different points on a spectrum
Don't discount the effect of inflammation on your muscles. I know a few people who have the concrete overcoat/walking through treacle feeling through their entire PMR journey. Something in PMR makes your muscles unable to signal they are tiring so you overdo it too easily and the DOMS that develops is more severe than you would expect for the exercise you have done. As well as being more severe, the muscles are unable to heal the tears in the muscle spindles that are what lead to the training effect and so it takes even longer to resolve. If you try to do far too much, it can take months for the healing process and there are some experts who think that excessive physical exertion can trigger a relapse and even PMR onset in the first place. I'm also not sure how myofascial pain syndrome and the inflammation there is likely to impinge on the muscle effects.
