Timing of taking prednisolone

I do a yoga class on Mondays and because it starts at 9.30 and I have been taking pred with my breakfast around 8.00, I'm still stiff in my neck and hips. So, having read your advice here about the inflammation starting up in the wee hours, I decided to take 5mg of the 6.5 I take when I woke for the loo at 3.00am. I ate a piece of Ryvita with it. By the class I felt so much better. So, many thanks. I should have listened long ago 😒

I take mine about 2am with a piece of hard cheese, usually Comte, which I love. It works well for me as well. I am glad it works well for you.

Am delighted for you - another convert. Be bold and take all of your dose in the "wee small hours" . I know there are some out there who cannot cope with a once daily dose but taking Pred late in the day is not really the way forward especially as you reduce your total daily dose even further as the PMR goes into remission.

Thanks Newbie. I'll try that but need a different foodstuff as chewing Ryvita at 3.00am (though I like Ryvita) takes some doing and breaks my sleep. Maybe I'll get some Comte?!!!! What is it by the way 🤔😕 😀

French cheese - would give me indigestion eating it that time of night (or morning)!

Pred ? Should taken with or after food -otherwise can irritate stomach.

Oh ok! I have never had any issues taking without food but I do take lansoprazole maybe this is why.

Yoghurt or a banana is also popular - no chewing there ...

The banana worked last night. No chewing and back to sleep with no problems. Thanks for the advice. Now need a banana tree for continous supply 😀

Take mine with yogurt and sometimes a banana

Brilliant news! I tend to take mine early. Since I have been on pred, I wake naturally around 5.00 - 5.30 am for a bathroom visit and then have trouble getting back to sleep. I take my meds, have a cup of tea, and then go back to sleep for a couple of hours and feel better when I wake. it works for me, (whatever else is recommended), so I am sticking to it. :)

oh, and I have some fat free Greek yoghourt when I take the pred.
