PMR & IBD connection

Curious to know if anyone has developed IBD after being diagnosed with PMR?

I was diagnosed with PMR in January this year and have now been diagnosed with Colitis after having a horrendous 7 weeks and awaiting treatment. I was curious to know if the two are connected in any way.

Thoughts greatly anticipated, thank you.

I had horrendous IBD. Tried changing to Famotidine (Ranitidine alternative) instead of Lansoprazole and so far, fingers crossed, it seems to be working. This is in spite of the fact that I took Lansoprazole for 6 years prior to this, without any such effect. Would never have believed it would be the culprit. I had blood and stool tests which showed no infection. Not sure what meds you are on but maybe one of them is the culprit.

I'm only taking 5mg Prednisolone for PMR, I stopped all other tablets in case any of these were causing the bowel problems, and now I'm waiting to hear from the hospital as to what treatment for IBD. I went two weeks ago for a colonoscopy. I was just curious to know if IBD was a part of PMR, maybe the two aren't connected.

I had problems also which I just put up with , it finally got too much with a course of antibiotic for a UTI. I stopped Omeprazole before hand I was always suspicious it wasn’t helping. I now take a probiotic especially for bowel

problems with excellent results . OptiBac Saccharomyces boulardii .

I take a maintenance dose of one or two capsules daily .

I have Ulcerative colitis but was diagnosed 2 years before symptoms of PMR showed up.

I don't think that there is much evidence that PMR and IBD are connected directly or specifically but there are forms of autoimmune arthritis which involve the gut. And there is a link to autoimmune disease in general:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Also, PMR isn't the disease - it is the name given to a set of symptoms caused by an underlying illness and there are several. PMR has been said to be the presentation for ulcerative colitis:

Thank you very much, I’ll look into this further and ask questions, maybe it’s been IBD all along and not PMR!

I had ulcerative colitis for about 12 years, treated with varying doses of prednisolone, until it got so bad I had to have a total colectomy or removal of my large bowel. Nearly 30 years later I was diagnosed with PMR! so I've got the other way round! Back on pred again but lower dose. Maybe both caused by stress ?
